Rome, July 24, 2015
To Yanis Varoufakis and Dominique Strauss-Khan

Dear Yanis, dear Dominique,

There is a place on earth that represents Europe’s very roots: Greece. Let us begin there.

Athens, April 28, 1955. Albert Camus’ conference on “The future of Europe”.[1]

On this occasion, participants agreed that the structural characteristics of European civilization are essentially two: the dignity of the individual; a spirit of critique.

At that time (1955), human dignity was a focus of much debate in Europe.

Nobody doubted, however, the European “spirit of critique”. There were no doubts about the rationalist, Cartesian, Enlightened vision, which was agent and engine of continuous progress on the continent, as much in terms of technical-scientific domination as for political, social and economic domination.

Today, more than half a century later, we might well invert these two: human dignity is widely appreciated throughout Europe, albeit challenged by dramatic problems generated by immigration; it is the force of reason in Europe that no longer underlies continuous progress.

Why is this so? What happened?

It was not some shadowy curse that descended upon the continent. It was not some evil hand that sowed our fields with salt. So what did happen?

Just as the dinosaurs died off because an asteroid slammed into the planet, so was dinosaur Europe struck by 4 different phenomena. Each was revolutionary even when taken alone, but all together, one after another, they proved enough to cause an explosion, an implosion, paralysis: enlargement, globalization, the euro, the crisis.

And that is not all. During the process of political union, we took a wrong turn at one point. We failed to unite that which could be and needed to be united (such as defense). Instead, we united that which did not need to be united (for example, the size of vegetables).

This is why, in Europe today, it is not “more union” that we need. What we need is to propose, discuss and design new “articles of confederation”.

Dear Yanis, dear Dominique, we agree on the fact that life and civilization cannot be reduced to mere calculations of interest rates;

Italy’s Pro-EU President Flouts Voters

Italy’s Pro-EU President Flouts Voters

29-05-18 01:17:00,

Authored by Soeren Kern via The Gatestone Institute,

  • The political situation reflects the stranglehold on power wielded by the pro-EU establishment, which is evidently determined to preserve economic austerity at the expense of democracy.

  • “We need to prepare a plan B to get out of the euro if necessary… the other alternative is to end up like Greece.” — Paolo Savona, a former industry minister who has called Italy’s entry into the euro a “historic mistake.”

  • “In Italy, there is a problem of democracy. In this country, you can be a convicted criminal, convicted for tax fraud, under investigation for corruption and be a minister… but if you criticize Europe, you cannot be the Minister of the Economy in Italy.” — M5S leader Luigi Di Maio.

Italy’s new populist government-in-waiting resigned on May 28 after its choice of a eurosceptic finance minister was rejected by the country’s pro-EU president – who instead asked an unelected technocrat to form a pro-EU government.

The political wrangling ends a bid by Italy’s two anti-establishment parties — the left-leaning Five Star Movement (M5S) and the center-right League (Lega) — to form a populist coalition government, which would have been the first of its kind in Europe.

The political situation reflects the stranglehold on power wielded by the pro-EU establishment, which is evidently determined to preserve economic austerity at the expense of democracy.

Italian president Sergio Mattarella refused to accept the nomination for finance minister of Paolo Savona, an 81-year-old former industry minister who has called Italy’s entry into the euro a “historic mistake.”

In his latest book, “Like a Nightmare and a Dream” (Come un incubo e come un sogno), Savona called the euro a “German cage” and warned that “we need to prepare a plan B to get out of the euro if necessary… the other alternative is to end up like Greece.”

Mattarella, who was installed by a previous pro-EU government, said that the “uncertainty over our position in the euro has alarmed Italian and foreign investors who purchased our government bonds and invested in our companies.”

How & Why Ice Ages Are Created | Armstrong Economics

How & Why Ice Ages Are Created | Armstrong Economics

29-05-18 06:24:00,

The weather is still unusually cold in the north. In Newfoundland, they woke up to a foot of snow.  In Iceland, they just had the coldest day in 100 years. It has long been understood that to create an Ice Age, the artic actually should be ice-free. The Arctic Ocean is the smallest and shallowest of the world’s five major oceans. We have been warning that our models projected that the energy output of the sun would drop into the end of this Economic Confidence Model wave 2032. This has now been confirmed as the energy output has turned down sharply since 2015.

Here is the picture that started the whole Global Warming propaganda. Yet they pretend that if the Arctic Ocean melted the sea levels would rise and flood places even like Miami. However, the Arctic Ocean has been free of ice historically many times. The passage through the ice has historically come and gone. The first to actually sail through the water was the Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen’s ship which traveled East to West between 1903 and 1906. This idea that the Arctic Ocean is always frozen over is simply not correct.

There are two routes known as the northern and southern routes of the Northwest Passage which have been open during occasional years in the past. According to records from Environment Canada, the southern route was “open” (no more than 60% ice covered) occasionally as far back as the 1970s, and the northern route was open in the summer of 1998. The northern route has since roughly 2007 has begun to open again. The northern route was open in 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011 (which was a record-low ice year), 2012, 2015, and now, into 2016 as well. While the alarmists are yelling, they also do not understand the history or the dynamics of an ice age.

The real experts on the oceans and how they function were at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory at Columbia University. It was in 1956 when they published A theory of ice ages by Maurice Ewing and William Donn. They were the most influential oceanographers to date, yet the Global Warming people have completely ignored their work and bastardized it for political gain.

US Gov’t Worker Suffers Traumatic Brain Injury After “Abnormal Sound” Incident In China | Light On Conspiracies – Revealing the Agenda

28-05-18 01:44:00,

Beijing, China — The US State Department issued a health alert to US citizens in China on Wednesday after an American embassy employee suffered a traumatic brain injury. According to the State Department, the injury was due to a “abnormal sensations of sound and pressure.”

We’re creating viewer supported news. Become a Patreon! Click Here!

The incident is ominously reminiscent of a series of similar attacks in Havana, Cuba that left 21 State Department employees with serious injuries. Now, after urging Americans not to visit Cuba, the government is similarly warning US citizens to be on the alert in China.

The State Department reports:

A U.S. government employee in China recently reported subtle and vague, but abnormal, sensations of sound and pressure.  The U.S. government is taking these reports seriously and has informed its official staff in China of this event.  We do not currently know what caused the reported symptoms and we are not aware of any similar situations in China, either inside or outside of the diplomatic community.

The incident comes as the new Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, is preparing to meet Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Washington on Wednesday to discuss trade.

As NBC reports, Jinnie Lee, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Embassy in Beijing said the employee reported the symptoms from late 2017 through last month and was eventually taken to the U.S. for further evaluation.

“On May 18, the embassy learned that the clinical findings of this evaluation matched mild traumatic brain injury,” she said. “The department is taking this incident very seriously and is working to determine the cause.”

According to the State Department, citizens in China should take the following actions:

  • If you have concerns about any symptoms or medical problems that developed during or after a stay in China, consult a medical professional.
  • While in China, if you experience any unusual acute auditory or sensory phenomena accompanied by unusual sounds or piercing noises, do not attempt to locate their source. Instead, move to a location where the sounds are not present.

President Donald Trump has yet to respond to the incident in China,

President Mattarella of Italy: From moral drift to tactical blunder

President Mattarella of Italy: From moral drift to tactical blunder

28-05-18 01:39:00,

I concede that there are issues over which I would welcome the Italian President’s use of constitutional powers that (in my humble opinion) he should not have.(*)  One such issue is the outrageous policy of the Lega and the promise of its leader, Mr Salvini, to expel five hundred thousand migrants from Italy. Had President Mattarella refused Mr Salvini the post of Interior Minister, on the basis that he rejects such a monstrous project, I would be compelled to support him. But, no, Mr Mattarella had no such qualms. Not even for a moment did he consider vetoing the formation of a 5S-Lega government on the basis that there is no place in a European country for scenes involving security forces rounding up hundreds of thousands of people, caging them, and forcing them into trains, buses and ferries before expelling them goodness knows where.
No, Mr Mattarella vetoed the formation of a government backed by an absolute majority of lawmakers for another reason: His disapproval of the Finance Minister designate. And what was this disapproval based on? The fact that the said gentleman, while fully qualified for the job, and despite his declaration that he would abide by the EU’s eurozone rules, has in the past expressed doubts about the eurozone’s architecture and has favoured a plan of euro exit just in case it is needed. It was as if  President Mattarella were to declare that reasonableness in a prospective Finance Minister constitutes grounds for his or her exclusion from the post!
Let’s face it: There is no thinking economist anywhere in the world who does not share a concern about the eurozone’s faulty architecture. And there is no prudent finance minister who does not have a plan for euro exit; indeed, I have itr on good authority that the German finance ministry, the ECB, every major bank and corporation have plans in place for the possible exit from the eurozone of Italy, even of Germany. Is Mr Mattarella telling us that only the Italian Finance Minister is not allowed to imagine having such a plan?
Beyond his moral drift (as he condones Mr Salvini’s industrial-scale misanthropy while vetoing a legitimate concern about the eurozone’s capacity to let Italy breathe in its midst), President Mattarella has made a major tactical blunder.
In short, he fell right into Mr Salvini’s trap.  » Lees verder

New York Magazine – Interviewed by Felipe Ossa: “Yanis Varoufakis Has Some Ideas About How to Save the Future”

New York Magazine – Interviewed by Felipe Ossa: “Yanis Varoufakis Has Some Ideas About How to Save the Future”

28-05-18 01:31:00,

Much of the world was introduced to Yanis Varoufakis in early 2015, when, as Greece’s bold new finance minister (he rode a Yamaha to work and tabloids touted his sex appeal), he led negotiations with the European Union, the European Central Bank, and the International Monetary Fund to restructure the country’s crushing load of government debt. To many, he was a leftist hero standing up to the heartless eurocrats in Brussels. But then the eurocrats won. After failing to reach an agreement — Varoufakis viewed the terms of the austerity measures as overly punitive and counterproductive — he resigned in a July 2015 blog post in which he vowed to “wear the creditors’ loathing with pride” and quit the governing Syriza Party.
Varoufakis, 57, has since become a vocal critic of politics in the European Union and a torch bearer for progressive ideas across the continent.
This March he launched a new party in Greece — where the conservative media continue attacking him as a narcissist and relentless self-promoter — MeRA 25, which aims to restructure Greece’s debt yet again and reverse some austerity measures. The country, he says, is turning into a desert of human capital, as the young emigrate to flee an E.U.-imposed “debt bondage.”
The U.S. edition of Varoufakis’s book, Speaking to My Daughter About the Economy: or, How Capitalism Works — and How it Fails, was just released. It sets out to demystify some of the major economic issues of our time for readers of all kinds, including 14-year-olds.
I spoke to Varoufakis over the phone last week. The interview has been edited and condensed for clarity and length.

So, in what ways does capitalism work and in what ways has it failed?

Capitalism has liberated us. It has generated incredible new technologies and wealth — I love the idea of a robot doing all the chores. But at the very same time, out of the same kind of proverbial production line, it has generated the most spectacular horror and depravity. It’s remarkably contradictory.

Speaking of robots: Your daughter is 14. What sort of jobs do you think will be available for her generation?

My greatest worry about my daughter is that increasingly her generation is being divided into two lumps,

Austria’s New Coalition Betrays on CETA Trade Agreement | Global Research – Centre for Research on Globalization

28-05-18 01:14:00,

Legally the CETA must be approved by the national parliaments in a majority of the 28 EU member states before becoming operative. Now it comes out that Sebastian Kurz’s populist Austrian coalition, after campaigning on a platform of NO to CETA and TTIP, secretly agreed late in 2017 to renege on their election campaign promises opposing CETA as a precondition for the refugee-critical conservative Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP) of Sebastian Kurz as Chancellor, to be able to form a coalition government with the right populist FPÖ. It represents a major betrayal of Austrian voters as well as of the future of EU sovereign national laws on environment, health and safety. But it gets worse.

In terms of the legitimacy of the Austrian elections in October 2017, the coalition FPÖ party campaigned hard against any acceptance of the multinational CETA trade deal. It promised a Swiss-style “direct democracy” referendum process of citizen vote on issues where a substantial number of citizen petitions warranted such. In their election campaign the FPÖ promised repeatedly such slogans as ”with us no CETA” and “…CETA only with a peoples’ referendum.”

Pre-election polls showed that 72% of Austrians opposed both the TTIP and the closely-related CETA on grounds it would damage Austrian small and mid-size businesses to the advantage of global multinationals. Citizen groups gathered an impressive 562,000 signatures opposing both CETA and TTIP before the election.

Only days following the election, on November 21, 2017, the FPÖ showed signs of retracting that opposition when they surprised voters and voted in Parliament in favor of the CETA’s most controversial proviso, the so-called the investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) mechanism (German: Investitionsschiedsgerichten). That ISDS proviso allows Canadian corporations sue any EU government over any new law or policy that might reduce their profits in future such as a new German minimum wage law or stricter laws prohibiting toxic chemicals such as glyphosate or neonicotinoids. However, the Canadian company or investor in say, Germany, does not sue in a German court. They rather go to a special secret arbitration tribunal over which the EU state has no control. Opposition to the ISDS was a central platform of the Austrian FPÖ campaign before October 15. Most USA large corporations have subsidiary companies in Canada meaning CETA is a backdoor for the now-frozen TTIP with the USA.

Fathi Harb Burnt himself to Death in Gaza. Will the World Notice? | Global Research – Centre for Research on Globalization

28-05-18 01:13:00,

Fathi Harb should have had something to live for, not least the imminent arrival of a new baby. But last week the 21-year-old extinguished his life in an inferno of flames in central Gaza.

It is believed to be the first example of a public act of self-immolation in the enclave. Harb doused himself in petrol and set himself alight on a street in Gaza City shortly before dawn prayers during the holy month of Ramadan.

In part, Harb was driven to this terrible act of self-destruction out of despair.

After a savage, decade-long Israeli blockade by land, sea and air, Gaza is like a car running on fumes. The United Nations has repeatedly warned that the enclave will be uninhabitable within a few years.

Over that same decade, Israel has intermittently pounded Gaza into ruins, in line with the Israeli army’s Dahiya doctrine. The goal is to decimate the targeted area, turning life back to the Stone Age so that the population is too preoccupied with making ends meet to care about the struggle for freedom.

Both of these kinds of assault have had a devastating impact on inhabitants’ psychological health.

Harb would have barely remembered a time before Gaza was an open-air prison and one where a 1,000kg Israeli bomb might land near his home.

In an enclave where two-thirds of young men are unemployed, he had no hope of finding work. He could not afford a home for his young family and he was about to have another mouth to feed.

Doubtless, all of this contributed to his decision to burn himself to death.

But self-immolation is more than suicide. That can be done quietly, out of sight, less gruesomely. In fact, figures suggest that suicide rates in Gaza have rocketed in recent years.

But public self-immolation is associated with protest.

A Buddhist monk famously turned himself into a human fireball in Vietnam in 1963 in protest at the persecution of his co-religionists. Tibetans have used self-immolation to highlight Chinese oppression, Indians to decry the caste system,

“A Toxic Coup Narrative”: Why Italy’s Political Crisis May Be About To Explode

“A Toxic Coup Narrative”: Why Italy’s Political Crisis May Be About To Explode

27-05-18 10:04:00,

On Friday Europe experienced an existentially terrifying “deja vu” moment straight from the 9th circle of Europe’s 2011/2012 sovereign debt hell, when first Italian, and then Spanish, yields exploded amid fears of political chaos in the Eurozone’s 3rd largest economy, coupled with the threat of an imminent collapse of the Rajoy government in Spain, the 5th largest economy.

But while Spain is a late entrant to Europe’s “political chaos” soap opera – although with both El País & El Mundo calling for an early general election, it is only a matter of time before this particular box of gunpowder also explodes, all eyes remain on Italy where not only have short-term rates blown out to levels that would send MF Global into Chapter 22…

… but the BTP-Bund spread exploded well beyond Goldman’s “contagion” threshold of 200bps

… while the scariest chart of all revealed that Italian redenomination risk is now at an all time high, reflecting the reality of Italy’s ‘Mini-BoT’ parallel currency concerns.

However, if it was the market’s intention into scaring Italy’s political system into submission, the same way it did in 2011 when the ECB got Sylvio Berlusconi to “quit” in just a few days as Italian bond yields exploded, it has failed, and according to the latest development in Europe, the Italian crisis may be about to get much worse.

Newly appointed Italy Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte

For those who missed it, Italy entered the weekend with the country deadlocked in what may be a Euro-defining clash whether euroskeptic professor, Paolo Savona, strongly endorsed by the League party, is allowed to become the country’s next economy minister. Here are the latest troubling details from Leonardo Carella:

The nomination of the designated Finance Minister, Paolo Savona, is being held back by the President of the Republic – a prerogative he formally has but that has rarely been exercised – reportedly over Savona’s anti-EU views.

From President Mattarella’s point of view, Savona, an 82 year-old professor who served in Ciampi and Berlusconi’s administrations,

“Peace Negotiator” Mike Pompeo: There is a CIA Plot to Assassinate Kim Jong-un? | Global Research – Centre for Research on Globalization

“Peace Negotiator” Mike Pompeo: There is a CIA Plot to Assassinate Kim Jong-un? | Global Research – Centre for Research on Globalization

27-05-18 10:03:00,

UPDATE: US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was in Pyongyang on a two day visit “to press leader Kim Jong-un for details on his plans for denuclearisation.”

It was a polite and courteous welcome, Asian style.

But with Pompeo in charge of negotiations, what are the prospects?

Back in October 2017, Pompeo  hinted in no uncertain terms when he was head of the CIA:

“If Kim Jong-un suddenly dies, don’t ask me about it … “

“With respect, if Kim Jong-un should vanish, given the history of the CIA, I’m just not going to talk about it,”

“We are going to become a much more vicious agency…”

And that’s the guy who’s in charge of “negotiating peace” with North Korea.

Fruitful negotiations? According to the New York Times, there was “distrust on both sides”.

Pyongyang negotiates with a U.S Secretary of State (former CIA Chief) who casually announced last October that Kim Jong-un was on the CIA’s assassination list.

Not surprisingly, hours following Pompeo’s departure,  Pyongyang accused the Trump administration of pushing a “unilateral and gangster-like demand for denuclearization.” A mild understatement.

Michel Chossudovsky, July 8, 2018 ( text below published by GR on May 27, 2018)

In May of last year, the DPRK accused both the CIA (headed by Mike Pompeo) and the ROK’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) of “a failed plot to assassinate its leader Kim Jong-un with a biochemical bomb at a military parade in Pyongyang.”

Neither the CIA nor the White House responded to these accusations.

While press reports acknowledged the CIA’s “long history” of political assassinations, the DPRK’s accusations were casually dismissed.

Mike Pompeo’s Unannounced May 1, 2017 Mission to Seoul

What the Western media failed to notice was that the announcement of the alleged assassination attempt  directed against Chairman Kim (May 5, 2017)  took place 5 days AFTER Mike Pompeo’s arrival in Seoul on the weekend of April 29-30 for (unannounced) consultations with his intelligence counterparts on May 1.

US Commander In Europe Wants More Troops, Resources To “Deter” Russia

US Commander In Europe Wants More Troops, Resources To “Deter” Russia

27-05-18 10:01:00,

Authored by Jason Ditz via,

As Russia cuts spending, US continues to escalate…

Russia has begun substantial multi-year cuts on their own military spending, but that isn’t going to deter Pentagon brass who intend to keep using it for more spending to “counter” them. European Command head Gen. Curtis Scaparrotti is the latest to push this narrative.

Gen. Scaparrotti suggested that the “modernization” of Russia’s military means that the US needs to deploy even more troops into Europe, with yet more equipment, to “deter” Russia.

“In terms of the force structure…in each of our domains, there are additions that I need,” he said.

US officials have been claiming that Russia would invade Eastern Europe at some point.

NATO officials have conceded that’s not a realistic concern, and it’s even less realistic with Russia dialing back its military spending.

Boosting U.S. forces in specific air, land and sea areas “would help me do a better job of deterring Russian and set us in a better place to understand how Russia operates,” he said.

Still, the costly deployments to Europe are politically popular for Eastern European NATO countries, and a justification for the Pentagon to get even more money.

While some of Scaparrotti’s comments are about getting more funding in general, he also suggested that “counter-terrorism” forces shift from the Middle East to Europe.

This suggests he is envisioning the US withdrawing some of its forces from Iraq and Syria, and wants to get ahead of the pack in vying for those forces.

Climate Engineers Cool Eastern US While World Burns | Light On Conspiracies – Revealing the Agenda

Climate Engineers Cool Eastern US While World Burns | Light On Conspiracies – Revealing the Agenda

27-05-18 02:03:00,

Source:  GeoEngineering Watch

by Dane Wigington
May 22, 2018

A primary objective of ongoing geoengineering operations is to mask the true severity of climate collapse from potentially powerful populations who could oppose climate engineering if awakened to the reality. The majority of the US population is in the eastern half of the country. By consistently engineering cool-down zones over the same heavily populated regions, the power structure and the climate engineers are able to further fuel division and confusion in regard to the actual state of global temperatures. The GISS departure from normal high temperature map below is the most recent case in point. Where was the only anomalously cool region in the world for the entire month of April? The eastern half of the North American continent. This anomaly was not an act of nature, it is a direct result of massive climate intervention operations. For the record, though April, 2018, was the 400th consecutive month of above normal global temperatures (3rd warmest April ever recorded globally), the US was miraculously below normal temperatures with the coldest April in more than 20 years.

For the entire month of April, 2018, the bullseye of below normal temperatures was maintained over the most populated regions of the US. It is important to remember and consider that the eastern half of the US is only 1/200th of the Earth’s surface area (1/2 of a percent). Conditions in such a small percentage of the Earth’s surface, of course, do not provide an accurate picture of overall planetary temperatures and conditions.

We’re creating viewer supported news. Become a Patron! Click Here!

Global departure from normal high temperature anomalies have remained similar for an extremely long span of time as next GISS map reveals (April, 2017, through April, 2018). Again, as already stated, such anomalies are not an act of nature, they are the result of climate engineering operations. The country with largest military by far (The US military is larger than the next 10 largest militaries combined) is the most capable of carrying out unimaginably extensive climate engineering operations.

The Gaza Crisis, Explained in Eight Graphics | Global Research – Centre for Research on Globalization

The Gaza Crisis, Explained in Eight Graphics | Global Research – Centre for Research on Globalization

26-05-18 08:21:00,

1. Where is Gaza?

Gaza is home to almost two million Palestinians, the majority of whom are long-term refugees (a further 3.25 million Palestinians live in the West Bank). It’s been run by Hamas since elections in 2007: the group is designated as a terrorist organisation by Israel, the US and the EU among others. The West Bank is governed by the Palestinian Authority, which is currently controlled by Fatah, rivals of Hamas.

2. The event that changed Palestinians

The dominant event for Palestinians in Gaza during the past century has been the Nakba of 1948, when hundreds of thousands were driven from, or else fled, their homes in what is now modern-day Israel as the state came into existence. The right of return to ancestral homes (or “Haq al-Awda”) is the over-riding long-term priority for many Palestinians: it forms part of United Nations resolution 194.

3. Palestinians recall what was lost

Palestinian houses and cinemas, shops and mosques, train stations and markets were all lost in 1948. Tarek Bakri, a researcher and archivist based in Jerusalem, started to collect archive photography which documented these losses. The image below slides left and right: MEE has published more examples.

Above: Israelis looting houses in the Palestinian neighbourhood of Musrara in Jerusalem. Musrara is one of the oldest neighbourhood built outside Jerusalem’s Old City walls in the 1860s.

4. Gaza since 1948

The seven decades after the Nakba have been ones of turmoil and crisis for the residents of Gaza, including occupation, uprisings and Israeli military operations.

5. Daily living

Long-term living conditions in Gaza are some of the worst in the Middle East. A report by the UN in 2015 noted that the economic well-being of Palestinians living in Gaza was worse than in 1995 and that it may be “uninhabitable” by 2020;

America’s Fifth Column Will Destroy Russia. The Insidious Role of Neoliberal Economics | Global Research – Centre for Research on Globalization

America’s Fifth Column Will Destroy Russia. The Insidious Role of Neoliberal Economics | Global Research – Centre for Research on Globalization

26-05-18 08:20:00,

From the standpoint of Russia’s dilemma, this is an important column.  Putin’s partial impotence via-a-vis Washington is due to the grip that neoliberal economics exercises over the Russian government. Putin cannot break with the West, because he believes that Russian economic development is dependent on Russia’s integration within the Western economy.  That is what neoliberal economics tells the Russian economic and financial establishment.

Everyone should understand that I am not a pro-Russian anti-American.  I am anti-war, especially nuclear war.  My concern is that the inability of the Russian government to put its foot down is due to its belief that Russian development, despite all the talk about the Eurasian partnership and the Silk Road, is dependent on being integrated with the West.

This totally erroneous belief prevents the Russian government from any decisive break with the West.  Consequently, Putin continues to accept provocations in order to avoid a decisive break that would cut Russia off from the West.  In Washington and the UK this is interpreted as a lack of resolve on Putin’s part and encourages an escalation in provocations that will intensify until Russia’s only option is surrender or war.

If the Russian government did not believe that it needed the West, the government could give stronger responses to provocations that would make clear that there are limits to what Russia will tolerate.  It would also make Europe aware that its existence hangs in the balance.  The combination of Trump abusing Europe and Europe’s recognition of the threat to its own existence of its alignment with an aggressive Washington would break the Western alliance and NATO.  But Putin cannot bring this about because he erroneously believes that Russia needs the West.

America’s Fifth Column Will Destroy Russia

If the neoconservatives had self-restraint, they would sit back and let America’s Fifth Column—Neoliberal Economics—finish off Russia for them.  Russia is doomed, because the country’s economists were brainwashed during the Yeltsin years by American neoliberal economists.  It was easy enough for the Americans to do. Communist economics had come to naught, the Russian economy was broken, Russians were experiencing widespread hardship, and successful America was there with a helping hand.

In reality the helping hand was a grasping hand.  The hand grasped Russian resources through privatization and gave control to American-friendly oligarchs.

Is Julian Assange About to be Arrested? | Global Research – Centre for Research on Globalization

26-05-18 08:20:00,

According to numerous mainstream media reports, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is about to be forced to leave the Ecuadorian embassy in London. If that happened, he would face imminent arrest by British authorities and extradition to the US, where he would probably face life imprisonment on the one hand or execution on espionage charges on the other. The latter being the preferred option for the Trump administration.

It has now been exactly two months since Assange has been denied visitors and any outside communications since the Ecuadorian government cut off his access on March 28. He has no internet, phone, television and is no longer allowed visitors at all.

The truth is, no-one actually knows if Assange is still actually on the Ecuadorian premises.

Ecuador gave citizenship to Assange prior to their recent general election in the hope of providing safe transit out of England by giving him diplomatic status. However, the British government continued in its assigned role of jailer by fully rejecting Ecuador’s request for diplomatic status for Assange.

A British tribunal refused to release any documents pertaining to the reasons as to why Assange remains in an effective prison, at taxpayers expense, on the grounds that it had to protect the British Prosecution Service’s relationship with foreign authorities – in this case, the USA.

Britain is doing Washington’s dirty work and given the heavily increased ‘chatter’ on Assange’s fate – it is quite likely the British government is looking for public reaction to be muted enough to simply arrest him, go through the motions and send Assange to certain solitary confinement on death row.

The signs are not good. Since the new Equidorian President Mr Moreno was recently elected he described Mr Assange as an ‘inherited problem’ and ‘more than a nuisance.’

Mr Assange’s lawyer, Melinda Taylor, said:

“For the last eight years, the UK has refused to either confirm or deny that they have received an extradition request from the US.”

Taylor continued:

‘At the same time, they have refused to provide assurances that Julian will not be extradited to the US if such a request were to be received, and maintained an ever-present vigil of the Embassy,

EU: How To Stop Mass-Migration From Africa? Bring Everyone To Europe!

EU: How To Stop Mass-Migration From Africa? Bring Everyone To Europe!

26-05-18 08:18:00,

Authored by Judith Bergman via The Gatestone Institute,

  • While the focus on illegal migration remains, the original goal of stopping African citizens from migrating into Europe appears to have been lost entirely. Instead, the declaration pronounces African legal migration to be a positive thing, even stressing the beneficial idea of migration of certain groups, such as researchers and business people.

  • No one seems to ask how draining Africa of skilled labor, such as businessmen and researchers, is going to help the continent develop and thus stem the trend of migration?

  • The Hungarian government appears to be the only government that considers whether the citizens it was elected to serve would support the declaration. Other European governments appear to think that asking their electorates what they think about African migration into Europe is irrelevant.

“Migration is a priority for all of us here” said EU Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship, Dimitris Avramopoulos, at the recent Fifth Euro-African Ministerial Conference on Migration and Development in Marrakesh at the beginning of May. The conference is a part of the Euro-African Ministerial Dialogue on Migration and Development (also known as the Rabat Process[1]).

The Euro-African Ministerial Dialogue on Migration and Development was founded in 2006 to contain migration from Africa into Europe, specifically, at the time, the increase of migrants crossing the Strait of Gibraltar from Morocco into Spain and from there into the rest of Europe.

Dimitris Avramopoulos (center), the EU Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship, at the Fifth Euro-African Ministerial Conference on Migration and Development in Marrakesh on May 2, 2018. (Image source: EU)

The 2006 Rabat Declaration established that the purpose of the process was to

“offer a … response to the fundamental issue of controlling migratory flows … the management of migration between Africa and Europe must be carried out within the context of a partnership to combat poverty and promote sustainable development and co-development”.

In other words, Europe would fund development and anti-poverty measures in Africa, so that Africans would stop looking for a better future in Europe.

These proposals show the dichotomy between the philosophy of US and Russian foreign policy

July 19, 2018

The United States last week accused the DPRK of violating refined petroleum caps imposed as a part of UN nuclear sanctions dating back to 2006, and is therefore submitting a proposal to cut all petroleum product sales to North Korea.

The Trump administration is keen on not only preserving pressure on North Korea over its nuclear arms development, but in increasing that pressure even as DPRK Chairman, Kim Jong-Un, is serially meeting with world leaders in a bid to secure North Korea’s security and potential nuclear disarmament, a major move that could deescalate tensions in the region, end the war with the South, and ease global apprehensions about the North’s nuclear arsenal.

Meanwhile, Russia is proposing to the UNSC sanctions relief in some form due to the North’s expressed commitment to nuclear disarmament in the light of recent developments.

Reuters reports:

MOSCOW/UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) – Russia’s envoy to North Korea said on Wednesday it would be logical to raise the question of easing sanctions on North Korea with the United Nations Security Council, as the United States pushes for a halt to refined petroleum exports to Pyongyang.

“The positive change on the Korean peninsula is now obvious,” said the ambassador, Alexander Matsegora, according to the RIA news agency, adding that Russia was ready to help modernize North Korea’s energy system if sanctions were lifted and if Pyongyang can find funding for the modernization.

The U.N. Security Council has unanimously boosted sanctions on North Korea since 2006 in a bid to choke off funding for Pyongyang’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs, banning exports including coal, iron, lead, textiles and seafood, and capping imports of crude oil and refined petroleum products.

China tried late last month to get the Security Council to issue a statement praising the June 12 Singapore meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and expressing its “willingness to adjust the measures on the DPRK in light of the DPRK’s compliance with the resolutions.”

North Korea’s official name is Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).

A Top US Journalist’s Excellent Report from a Security Conference in Iran (Philip Giraldi)

A Top US Journalist’s Excellent Report from a Security Conference in Iran (Philip Giraldi)

25-05-18 02:41:00,

The author is a retired CIA officer who spent 20 years on assignment in Europe and the Middle East. He is Executive Director of the Council for the National Interest, a Washington-based advocacy group which seeks to change the Israeli-centric nature of US foreign policy in the Middle East.

Giraldi has emerged as one of the most outspoken and influential critics of Jewish and Israel influence on American foreign policy, an influence which he believes is pernicious. He publishes at the Unz Review. Here is the archive of his excellent articlespublished on RI.

I have just spent a week in Mashad and Tehran Iran, speaking at an international conference on the future of Jerusalem as well as other related issues while also meeting with a broad range of Iranians, including journalists, students and government officials. The conference was organized by a non-government organization called New Horizon. It was the sixth such conference, intended to bring together speakers from a number of countries to discuss issues involving Middle Eastern security and identity issues.

To be sure, Iran, threatened as it is from all sides, has certain aspects of a security state. And as what is essentially a partial democracy run along religious lines, it has very clear limits on what constitutes acceptable behavior. But I think the representatives of the thirty or so countries who attended the congress would agree that there was no attempt made to limit free speech or guide discussions.

The only attempt to censor the conference and its content has been, I would note, the blocking of sponsor New Horizon’s website on Google and presumably elsewhere in the Zionist/U.S. dominated social media and information-searching world. Indeed, the only coordinated activity that might have been noted at the conference itself was the loud hissing noise that accompanied any mention of the name John Bolton.

Indeed, there was clear criticism of the nature of the Iranian government openly expressed at the conference as well as very heated exchanges on a number of issues surrounding Jewish identity, Israel, the Palestinians, the status of Jerusalem and the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Agreement (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program.

An Icelandic inventor has developed a bird-like drone that could revolutionize surveillance

An Icelandic inventor has developed a bird-like drone that could revolutionize surveillance

25-05-18 01:56:00,

  • Icelandic startup Flygildi thinks it has unlocked the
“holy grail” of drone technology: its drone looks and flies
    like a bird.
  • The AI-powered drone could come in handy for law
    enforcement and military purposes.

  • The drone is so bird-like that radars cannot
tell it apart from real birds, according to its

Drones are all the rage these days, but the technology still has
its limitations. Drones can be noisy and easily spotted, which
makes them difficult to use for surveillance.

Enter renowned Icelandic inventor Hjalti Hardarson and his latest
endeavor, Flygildi, the Silent Flyer.

The autonomous drone comes with all the regular functions, but on
top of that, it is quiet and it looks and flies like a bird.

“The Holy Grail for drone technology has always been the ability
to fly without rotors and using flapping wings instead,” said

The idea is both simple and radical. “First, we build a bird-like
device where we use seabirds as models. Secondly, we use
evolutionary computational methods to teach the device to fly
like a bird,” Hardarson explained.

It looks like a bird, it flies like a bird

The bird drone uses flapping wings for silent flight and vertical
takeoff and landing.

“We are applying the evolutionary method of flying, and it works.
We have seen devices before with flapping wings instead of
propellers, but mainly as toys or prototypes,” said Hardarson who
developed the Silent Flyer in cooperation with Leifur Thor
Leifsson, Ph.D. in aerospace engineering and his team at
Reykjavik University.

“Our unique wing design makes the device fly like a bird while
the drone operator has real-time control of the wings for
steering the device.”

The Silent Flyer has two main parts, the body with wings, and the
head. The wing motion can be set to any value within the limits
of four DoF (Degrees of Freedom). The head has space for a camera
and is controlled by servomotors enabling it to move up,

Shocking Wikipedia Scandal Unfolding in UK – Rampant Leftist Political Manipulation

Shocking Wikipedia Scandal Unfolding in UK – Rampant Leftist Political Manipulation

25-05-18 12:32:00,

Editor’s Note: Since publishing this first article 1 week ago which lays out the accusation, Murray has published 3 more articles with additional damning evidence. Murray is a force in the UK and beyond. His 1-man blog gets around 2 million views per month, and his articles are widely republished elsewhere, as we are doing here, giving him millions more views. This makes him, by far, the most popular and influential journalist in the UK.

Here, he has caught Wikipedia red-handed fiddling with entries to achieve political ends. This is very ugly, and it is causing an uproar.

CORRECTION: The original headline of this article said read “leftist political manipulation”, but readers corrected us, pointing out that it is in fact left leaning authors whose data is being misrepresented. We are very grateful for the correction. Thanks readers.

UPDATE “Philip Cross” has not had one single day off from editing Wikipedia in almost five years. “He” has edited every single day from 29 August 2013 to 14 May 2018. Including five Christmas Days. That’s 1,721 consecutive days of editing.

133,612 edits to Wikpedia have been made in the name of “Philip Cross” over 14 years. That’s over 30 edits per day, seven days a week. And I do not use that figuratively: Wikipedia edits are timed, and if you plot them, the timecard for “Philip Cross’s” Wikipedia activity is astonishing is astonishing if it is one individual:

The operation runs like clockwork, seven days a week, every waking hour, without significant variation. If Philip Cross genuinely is an individual, there is no denying he is morbidly obsessed. I am no psychiatrist, but to my entirely inexpert eyes this looks like the behaviour of a deranged psychotic with no regular social activities outside the home, no job (or an incredibly tolerant boss), living his life through a screen.

I run what is arguably the most widely read single person political blog in the UK, and I do not spend nearly as much time on the internet as “Philip Cross”. My “timecard” would show where I watch football on Saturdays, go drinking on Fridays, go to the supermarket and for a walk or out with the family on Sundays,

Fact or fiction: Is there a fifth column in Russia? (Video)

Fact or fiction: Is there a fifth column in Russia? (Video)

25-05-18 12:15:00,

US President Donald Trump has just lectured NATO on it member’s commitment performance and held a controversial meeting with the Russian President Vladimir Putin and is next week to receive EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, with trade matters being high up on the agenda.

Juncker is expected to present Trump with a package of proposals to help smooth relations and potentially heal areas of division, particularly those surrounding Europe’s trade relationship with America. Those proposals are precisely what is cropping up as another area of divergence between some members of the EU, specifically France and Germany, just after a major contention on migration has been driving discord within the Union.

This gets down to whether Europe should offer concessions to Trump on trade while Trump is admittedly describing the Union as a ‘foe’ and has initiated a trade spat with the Union by assessing trade tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Europe, spurring retaliatory tariff measures from the EU Commission.

France, specifically, is opposed to any sort of compromise with Trump on the matter, where Trump is perceived as an opponent to the Union and its unity, whereas Germany is economically motivated to seek an end to the trade dispute under the threat of a new round of tariffs emanating from the Trump administration, and is therefore seeking to find some sort of proposal that Trump will accept and therefore back down on his protectionism against the EU, and Germany in particular.

Politico reports:

Only a week before European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker flies to Washington, France and Germany are divided over how much he should offer to U.S. President Donald Trump to end a deepening trade war, say European diplomats and officials.

But, they add, Germany has the upper hand. Berlin is shaping Juncker’s agenda, suggesting three offers that he could take to Trump on July 25 to resolve the dispute, according to people familiar with the plans.

The French are uneasy about the wisdom of such a conciliatory approach, however, and publicly accuse Trump of seeking to splinter and weaken the 28-member bloc, which he has called his “foe.”

Despite Paris’ reservations about giving away too much to the increasingly hostile U.S.

Elon Musk to create a site to battle fakes news, its name: PRAVDA

Elon Musk to create a site to battle fakes news, its name: PRAVDA

25-05-18 09:08:00,

Elon Musk is creating a website where “…the public can rate the core truth of any article & track the credibility score over time of each journalist, editor & publication,” as he said in a tweet.

Interestingly enough, he plans on naming it Pravda.

Going to create a site where the public can rate the core truth of any article & track the credibility score over time of each journalist, editor & publication. Thinking of calling it Pravda …

— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) May 23, 2018

When we hear the name Pravda, we think of many things; for Russian speakers, this means “The Truth”, however, it was also the name of a famous Soviet newspaper, which has survived in various successor forms. For example, Komsomolskaya Pravda, who wrote an article (in Russian) about Musk’s idea of the site.

Musk also created a poll, asking people to vote as to whether or not they felt this was a good and useful idea, and so far, according to RIA Novosti, 88% of the 68 thousand asked, supported the creation of Pravda.

Musk said the site should not only have protection from bots, but also work to expose anyone who uses them for misinformation. While we know little about the purposed site, based on the description, it seems to be highly community based, where people essentially “rate” as he said, articles, journalists, editors, publications, etc. This could possibly be similar to how Reddit is karma based, though on a much higher level, with “the public” leaving reviews of articles and those who publish them.

This is perhaps the most important aspect of his announcement, in this age of fake news, the idea of the public rating the “truth” of an article. This is an issue perfectly captured in RIA Novosti’s headline describing his idea, which said in Russian “Everyone has his own Pravda (Truth)”. The double entendre of the word Pravda in Russian made the headline so poetic, and so powerful in revealing the major implications of this website. Before we jump into these implications, it is worth noting something interesting about the word Pravda, that non-Slavic speakers may not understand.

While the word does indeed mean “Truth” in Russian,

Woodrow Wilson Created the Fed, Which Gave Us a War Finance System for the Next 100 Years

Woodrow Wilson Created the Fed, Which Gave Us a War Finance System for the Next 100 Years

24-05-18 07:34:00,

“Indeed, Thomas Woodrow Wilson is the father of most of the last century’s ills. His grand crusade gave the world the curse of Stalin and Hitler, which, in turn, fostered the fallacy of the Indispensable Nation and gave rise to Imperial Washington and its destructive projects of global Empire.”

The author is a prominent American politician, businessman, publicist and author. He was Ronald Reagan’s Budget Director, and a congressman from Michigan. He is a frequent commentator on the major financial TV networks on the state of the economy. You could describe him as America’s financial conscience and scold – and he’s been doing it for 40 years, he famously broke with Reagan over his budget-busting ways.

He writes frequently about the perversity of US policy towards Russia, and we reproduce his work here when he does. See the full archive of his articles on RI here.

This is an excellent series from Stockman considering the history of the last 100 years, chronicling how the US got into its present predicament of trying to run the world with an over-extended military. The original title of the series is  ‘Why the Empire Never Sleeps: The Indispensable Nation Folly’.

Part 1: America Spends $1 Trillion on its Military Every Year – and Has No Way to Pay for It

Part 2: US Entry into WWI Started Her Disastrous March to Empire

Stay tuned for Part 4.

Woodrow Wilson’s Folly gave rise to more than the 1,000 year flood of Nazi and Soviet totalitarianism and their state orchestrated campaigns of mass murder.

It also opened the door to massive, cheap war finance. And that baleful innovation has sustained the Empire long after Hitler and Stalin met their maker and the case for the Indispensable Nation had become ragged and threadbare.

In the context of American democracy – special interest dominated as it is – the greatest deterrents to imperial adventurism and war are the draft and taxes. Both bring home to the middle class voting public the cost of war in blood and treasure (theirs), and force politicians to justify the same in terms of tangible and compelling benefits to homeland security.

China Is Winning The “Trade War” Without Firing A Shot

China Is Winning The “Trade War” Without Firing A Shot

24-05-18 07:24:00,

Authored by Lance Roberts via,

This past weekend, the Administration announced a tentative deal with China to temporarily postpone the burgeoning “trade war.” While the details of the deal are yet to be worked out, the concept is fairly simple – China will reduce the existing “trade deficit” by over $200 billion annually with the U.S. by reducing tariffs and allowing more goods to flow into China for purchase. On Monday, the markets reacted positively with industrial and material stocks rising sharply as it is expected these companies will be the most logical and direct beneficiaries of any deal.

Unfortunately, there are several reasons the whole scenario is quite implausible. Amitrajeet Batabyal recently explained the problem quite well.

“With China, the U.S. imports a whopping $375 billion more than it exportsHow could it whittle that down to $175 billion? There are three ways.

  • First, China could buy more U.S. goods and services.
  • Second, Americans could buy less Chinese stuff.
  • Finally, both actions could happen simultaneously.

The kinds of Chinese goods that Americans buy tend to be relatively inexpensive consumer goods, so even a dramatic decline is likely to have only a trivial impact on the deficit. And since China explicitly controls only one lever — its imports — it’ll have to buy a lot more American-made things to achieve this goal.

For this to happen, without upsetting other trade balances, the American economy would have to make a lot more than it currently produces, something that isn’t possible in so short a time frame.”

While the Administration will be able to claim a “trade victory” over a deficit reduction agreement, such is unlikely to lead to more economic growth as promised.

If we assume China does indeed spend an additional $200 billion on U.S. goods, those purchases will increase flows into the U.S. dollar, causing dollar strengthening relative to not only the Yuan but also other currencies as well. Since U.S. exports comprise about 40% of domestic corporate profits, a stronger dollar will counter the benefits of China’s purchase as other foreign importers seek cheaper goods elsewhere.

Climate Change & the 43-Year Cycle | Armstrong Economics

Climate Change & the 43-Year Cycle | Armstrong Economics

24-05-18 09:03:00,

QUESTION: Dear Martin,

I was browsing through the website of NASA and came across a graph (see attachment).

It shows the temperature differences between 1880 and 2012. As far as I can see there seems to be a +/- 40-year cycle. I have edited it with the red vertical lines. The end of the current 40-year cycle should be around 2020, which, if I am not mistaken, coincides with a date you have mentioned previously in one of your blogs. This could mean that around that date a new 40-year cycle should start and temperatures should decline. What is your opinion on this?

Best regards,

ANSWER: Yes, not bad. Look closely. The Japanese data seems to be the least messed with. The others have recalculated the data numerous times to get the biggest effect. Our model shows a 43-year cycle to be precise. That is driven by the energy output of the sun for it tests back into ancient times as well. The Japanese data is the least “politically correct” data whereas the US versions have an agenda behind them to justify raising taxes as if we can really change the climate of the entire planet. They get away with this because they confuse people with pollution and climate change. Hospital waste dumped in the sea does not change the climate but is disgusting and dangerous in spreading disease.

The energy output of the sun peaked in 2015 and has been crashing faster than anyone thought possible. The fascinating thing as you look at the chart and see the cycle. They do not. They forecast linearly whatever trend is in motion will last forever.

The Production and Consumption of Unsafe Genetically Modified (GMO) Food in Nigeria | Global Research – Centre for Research on Globalization

The Production and Consumption of Unsafe Genetically Modified (GMO) Food in Nigeria | Global Research – Centre for Research on Globalization

23-05-18 02:03:00,

At the quarterly press briefing of the Association of Catholic Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (ACMPN), Owerri Archdiocese, on Monday 21st May, 2018, the chairman Academician Dr Prince Philip C. Njemanze MD (Hons) reaffirmed to all Nigerians the need for precautionary approach towards consuming genetically modified organisms (GMO) foods and planting the crops. The ACMPN Annual General Scientific Conference had published earlier the observations arising from the 12th scientific conference and annual general meeting with the theme Genetically-Modified Organisms: How Harmful, Harmless or Beneficial?, that took place at the Catholic Institute of West Africa (CIWA), Port Harcourt from 6th to 8th July, 2017. In attendance were medical doctors, scientific experts in biotechnology and nutrition especially those concerned with food safety regulation.

The general consensus was on the need for precautionary approach towards the introduction of GMO crops into our food system. The participants expressed concern on the rapid introduction of GMO crops into our food system without adequate assurance of safety and declared it highly immoral and a threat to food security.

Experts agree that food safety certification usually takes several decades since effects take place at molecular genetic level before subsequent clinical manifestation. It is therefore irresponsible for any organization or association, medical or scientific to give a risk free certification for any GMO crop to be used as food prior to long-term effects monitoring and continuing experimentation. Moreover, scientific studies in animals fed with GMO foods have shown detectable biological changes of cellular transformation into cancer cells or other forms of biochemical malfunction leading to liver failure and kidney failure. Studies in humans show strong association of GMO food with allergic reactions and mental diseases such as autism spectrum disorders.

The provision of unsafe food is no solution to hunger, but rather results in even greater health hazards. The use of transgenic crops which implies changing genetic material could be used for good and bad purposes. For example, the insertion of a sterilizing gene called Epicyte gene in Corn flex could sterilize children of school age using Corn flex in a school feeding programme, leading to loss of generations of people in Nigeria. These genetic changes are not reversible. There should be heightened attention to food safety in schools with feeding programs. Moreover, school feeding poisoning linked to insecticides have occurred in India.

QUESTION: A friend of mine has one of your original Greatest Bull Market in History books. I noticed that you quote your direct sources from newspapers and magazines rather than other people histories. Did you find the newspaper a better source of truth?

ANSWER: Absolutely. I have collected newspapers from the 1600s to date. They are an invaluable contemporary source of what was being talked about and events at that moment in time. Here is a rare early publication known as The History of Popery, printed in London October 3rd, 1679. This newspaper was an example of the religious issues in Britain that led to the Civil War. This was an anti-Catholic newspaper, which is rather rare for it had a short life before it was suppressed. This one was on Purgatory stating that this is “[t]he belief thereof a Popish Article of Faith.” It goes into the brewing hatred of Catholic in England at that moment in time. You cannot get a sense of real beliefs by reading someone’s interpretation. They tend to pick and choose events or comments to support a predetermined conclusion.

Take the Great Crash which has been the seminal foundation of the history of the causes of the Great Depression. It is a total piece of socialist propaganda in my opinion. Nowhere in this book do you even find a mention of the 1931 Sovereign Debt Crisis. The predetermined conclusion was to be corporate greed and that is why we needed big government. The same is true of the Creature of Jekyll Island and countless other books that were just anti-central banks. When I read Herbert Hoover’s Memoirs, and all the documentation he put in there with the letters between the heads of state, there was NOT a single book written about the Great Depression that was fair, honest and approached the subject with a quest to follow the facts to see where they truly led.

I studied ancient languages. So I learned to read Latin and ancient Greek. This gave me an unusual background when I was interested in economics. Adam Smith’s teacher was Francis Hutcheson (1694–1746) who was a professor of Philosophy at the University of Glasgow.

COMMENT: Hi Martin, I really love your work. You are the only one financial guy I follow. Your power is obviously your prediction computer program Socrates which I use every day. I understand that your other posts are just your opinions and I would like to point out some of the flawed arguments you make about Cryptocurrencies( in my humble opinion) as I would really like to see you put a little more effort to study them if you are interested in this field

1) As you said many times. The majority must be wrong in order for big moves to happen. Well, I can see that this might be the case for cryptos.

2) Government can just kill Cryptos by banning them. Well, they can but they would have to do it simultaneously. Which will never happen. If US ban cryptos, all that will happen is that ale IT specialist and all money created in this new industry will shift elsewhere. There is no benefit at doing this. It is the same if any state would ban Internet back at 90ies. They would get isolated. Also, keep in mind that law which is not enforceable is not a law. People will just ignore it. You cannot ban cryptos, same as you cannot ban torrents or internet.

3) Bitcoin cannot be used as currency because the economy needs fractional lending to create money and elastic money supply. That is true. Number of Bitcoins is fixed. That is why Bitcoin in the crypto world is called digital gold.

However, there are other cryptos which can fulfill this role easily. That is why we have hundreds of them and each is experimenting with different branches of society. For example, there are cryptos which have steady inflation mechanics build into them. And suddenly there you have predictable inflationary money supply which everyone can predict. I can remember you actually rooted for this idea – Why do we have taxes after all? The more easy way would be if the state just prints its money it wants to spend, for example, it will say that it will print 30% of GDP each year. Well, this is easily achievable by cryptocurrencies.

You can do ANYTHING with them.
