[This talk was delivered at the Mises Circle in New York City on September 14, 2012.]

The 20th century was the century of total war. Limitations on the scope of war, built up over many centuries, had already begun to break down in the 19th century, but they were altogether obliterated in the 20th. And of course the sheer amount of resources that centralized states could bring to bear in war, and the terrible new technologies of killing that became available to them, made the 20th a century of almost unimaginable horror.

It isn’t terribly often that people discuss the development of total war in tandem with the development of modern central banking, which — although antecedents existed long before — also came into its own in the 20th century. It’s no surprise that Ron Paul, the man in public life who has done more than anyone to break through the limits of what is permissible to say in polite society about both these things, has also been so insistent that the twin phenomena of war and central banking are linked. “It is no coincidence,” Dr. Paul said, “that the century of total war coincided with the century of central banking.”

He added:

If every American taxpayer had to submit an extra five or ten thousand dollars to the IRS this April to pay for the war, I’m quite certain it would end very quickly. The problem is that government finances war by borrowing and printing money, rather than presenting a bill directly in the form of higher taxes. When the costs are obscured, the question of whether any war is worth it becomes distorted.

For the sake of my remarks today I take it as given that Murray Rothbard’s analysis of the true functions of central banking is correct. Rothbard’s books The History of Money and Banking: The Colonial Era Through World War II, The Case Against the FedThe Mystery of Banking, and What Has Government Done to Our Money? provide the logical case and the empirical evidence for this view,

A History of the 21st Century

Paul Craig Roberts.

In the 1990s with the Soviet Union collapsed as a result of the communist hardliners’ arrest of Soviet President Gorbachev and Yeltsin serving as Washington’s puppet while Americans and Israelis looted Russia, the neoconservatives called for Washington to overthrow Middle Eastern governments. The neocon scenario for remaking the Middle East was set out prior to the events of September 11, 2001. https://www.theamericanconservative.com/articles/whose-war/

The neoconservatives said that they needed “a new Pearl Harbor” in order to launch wars in the Middle East. The cover story was to bring democracy to the Middle East, but the real purpose was to remove governments in the way of Israeli expansion (https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1932528172/counterpunchmaga).

Israel’s principal target was the water resources in southern Lebanon.  The Israeli Army had tried to occupy southern Lebanon but was sent fleeing back into Israel by the Hezbollah militia.  Israel concluded that it would use their American vassal to overthrow Iraq, Syria, and Iran, the governments that supplied the Hezbollah militia.  Once the American puppet had overthrown the resistance to Israel’s expansion, Hezbollah would have no financial or military backing and could safely be attacked by the Israeli army, a military force good only for killing unarmed Palestinian women and children.

9/11 was their New Pearl Harbor.

General Wesley Clark, a 4-star US general who was Supreme allied Commander of NATO, revealed on television that a mere 10 days after 9/11 he was in the Pentagon and was told by a general who formerly worked under him that the decision had been made to invade Iraq.  This was before any of the alleged and disproven connections between Iraq and 9/11 had emerged from the neoconservatives’ manipulation of America’s presstitute media.

In other words the invasion of Iraq was planned long before 9/11.  It was there all ready for a false flag launch.

Gen. Clark said on TV a few weeks later after the Cheney/Bush Regime was bombing Afghanistan that he again saw his former subordinate in the Pentagon.  The general held up a memo that “describes how we’re going to take out seven countries in five years, starting with Iraq,

The “Deal of the Century” to Undermine the Palestinians’ Legitimate Rights | New Eastern Outlook

Peace for Prosperity, the so-called international conference promoted, with great fanfare, by Washington, and the personal brainchild of Senior Presidential Adviser Jared Kushner, started rather ingloriously in Bahrain, and has concluded without any results.

According to its organizers, it was to have launched the initial stage (i.e. the economic programme) of the “Deal of the Century”, developed by the USA and Israel to force the Palestinians into final submission. In developing the Peace for Prosperity plan, the US president’s son-in-law was supported by Jason Greenblatt, Donald Trump’s Special Representative for International Relations, and David Friedman, the US ambassador to Israel.

Other participants in this so-called international conference included a number of businessmen from Persian Gulf nations, Israel and the USA. The conference was addressed by such luminaries as Christine Lagarde, chairwoman of the International Monetary Fund, Tony Blair, the former British Prime Minister, Gianni Infantino, the head of FIFA, and representatives of the World Bank. Saudi Arabia and the UAE sent a number of ministers to the event, Egypt and Jordan, the only countries in the region to have signed a peace agreement with Israel, just sent acting finance ministers, and Europe sent, in the words of one diplomat, speaking to the Economist, “the lowest level of representation that wouldn’t be offensive.”

The Palestinians categorically refused to take part in this get-together in which a group of politicians “solved” all their problems in accordance with an agenda dictated by America and Israel. The Palestinian leadership (the PLO, HAMAS) boycotted the Bahrain conference entirely, and Mahmoud Abbas, the head of the PLO, said that the deal could “go to hell”. In a survey conducted by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research, almost 90% of Palestinians refused to support the so-called “Deal of the Century”. And a declaration issued by the UN accuses the White House of trying to sell “a mirage of economic prosperity” which will only perpetuate the Palestinians’ dependence on foreign support.

In a letter to national leaders taking part in the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation meeting in Mecca, the Iranian President Hasan Rouhani described the USA’s so-called “Deal of the Century” to resolve the conflict between Israel and Palestine as “… a conspiracy to destroy the Palestinian cause,

Trump’s deal of the century – DocP

30-06-19 10:38:00,

The “Deal of the Century”: The Palestinian Cause Is behind Iran and Hezbollah’s Success – Global Research

Israel is not preparing a military adventure against Gaza, Syria, Hezbollah or Iran because it is in fact already attaining its objectives both internationally and domestically.

Its military apparatus regularly hits targets in Syria with a calculated risk of retaliation from Damascus and its allies. Israel willingly risks a Syrian reprisal. If Syria were to respond to Israel’s continuous violations of its sovereignty, it would help Israel attract world attention.

The world powers would then do their best to try and stop an escalation between Israel and all its enemies gathered in one place in the Levant, rather than looking in meticulous detail at Israel’s wrongdoing in Palestine, and its violations of UN and Oslo agreements. Israel is aware that its enemies will evaluate the timing, benefits and reaction to any military response. Syria and its allies believe a war will slow its recovery from 8 years of war. The potential consequences of a war with Israel on the Syrian economy – at a time of ongoing economic crisis – would be devastating. Syria’s allies are not willing to be dragged into a confrontation at Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu’s whim. They are also aware of Trump’s unlimited support for Israel at all costs and by any means. An Israeli-US war on Syria would be disastrous.

Netanyahu feels very confident, given Trump’s unlimited support and the confirmation of his domestic support in recent legislative elections. He holds the initiative and has managed to concentrate global attention on Iran rather than Palestine. Demonization of Iran as the head of the “Axis of Evil” diverts attention from the Jewish Nationalist law, the dislodging of the Palestinians from the West Bank-Zone C, and the Israeli attempt to wipe out any trace of Palestinians in the occupied Israeli territory.

Saudi Arabia’s record of militant hatred against Iran’s wide influence in the region is nothing new. It dates back to 1981 when Saddam Hussein declared war on Iran. Moreover, Saudi’s extremist Wahhabite Islamic doctrine leaves little room for tolerance towards any other practice of Islam or towards any other religion. Saudi’s takfiri Wahhabist doctrine is the same creed as that of al-Qaeda and ISIS, who consider secular, Shia, Druse, Isma’ili and Zaidi men, women and children as deserving to be killed at sight,

Revelations on the “Deal of the Century”

revelations-on-the-deal-of-the-century

04-01-19 01:12:00,

At the end of October 2018, when Avigdor Lieberman was still the Israeli Minister of Defence, he unveiled to the Palestinian Authorities, the principles of the US Peace Plan for the resolution of the Israeli-Palestine conflict. So announced the Saudi newspaper, Al-Hayat.

Liberman has denied all this information.

- the sovereignty of the Palestine People would be recognized but it would not be linked to a territory.

- Transjordan and Gaza would be treated distinctly; a small part of Transjordan would remain under the responsibility of the Palestine Authorities whilst the major part of its current territory would be hooked on to Jordan; Gaza would remain under the control of three states: Egypt; Qatar and Saudi.

- The core of East Jerusalem would fall under Israeli control.

- Billions of dollars from the Gulf Countries would be invested in the Palestine Territories to permit their economic development.

According to Avigdor Lieberman, the US plan is on a “take it or leave it” basis and is not up for negotiation.

The Palestine Authority has denounced it as a US conspiracy.

Hamas has begun to receive money from the Israeli government through Qatar.

The Israeli government is divided on the reaction to adopt. Avigdor Lieberman resigned on 14 November and elections had been brought forward to April 2019.

A century since WWI, world slides into war again – Peter Kuznick

a-century-since-wwi-world-slides-into-war-again-peter-kuznick

12-11-18 06:26:00,

Our world leaders don’t learn the lessons of history: with countries conducting the largest military drills in decades and modernizing its nuclear arsenals the world is rapidly sliding into war again, Prof. Peter Kuznick told RT.

Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump were among the heads of state attending events to mark the centenary of the end of WWI in Paris on Sunday. While the Russian and American leaders didn’t have an actual meeting, they still managed to grab headlines for what was described as ‘over-friendly’ body language.

Ahead of Armistice Day Trump had criticized France’s President Emmanuel Macron over his proposal to create a European army calling it “insulting.” However, in Paris they glossed over any differences and agreed on more defense spending for Europe.

RT discussed the issue with Professor Peter Kuznick, a historian and co-author with Oliver Stone of ‘The Untold History of the United States’.

RT: A top Kremlin aide has said that the French government was opposed to a meeting between Trump and Putin in Paris. Why would that have been? Was it right for them not to meet?

Peter Kuznik: The French made it clear that they didn’t want Trump and Putin to steal the funfair of the commemorative event. So that was clear why they were there – they were there to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the end of WWI. It does make sense that they were going to postpone that meeting since they’ll have another opportunity very shortly. But the world is in a serious situation now – and we need to be speaking to each other. As long as they are serious about having that discussion, especially in the light of Trump’s statements that he wants to withdraw the US from the INF treaty. The relations between the US and Russia are at a low point. We need to be talking; we need to be coming to a certain understanding and certain agreements.

RT: How do you think Trump must have felt about Macron’s warning about the resurgence of nationalist forces and to what extent was the comment aimed at the US President?

PK: I think the comment was largely aimed at the US president.

Will Oil End the American Century? | New Eastern Outlook

Will Oil End the American Century? | New Eastern Outlook

20-05-18 03:17:00,

petroleo

The American Century, so triumphantly proclaimed in a 1941 Life magazine editorial by US establishment insider Henry Luce, was built on the control of oil and on an endless succession of wars for that control of global oil. Now, ironically, with the illegal and unilateral cancellation of the Iranian nuclear agreement by the US President, oil may be set to play a key, if unintended, role in the downfall of the global hegemony of that same American Century.

Each element of various countries’ recent and increasing steps to get away from dollar dependency, in and of itself is insufficient to end the domination of the US dollar through Washington’s ability to force other countries to buy or sell their oil only in dollars. Yet each unilateral provocation and sanction action by Washington forces other countries to find solutions only four years ago not deemed possible or practical.

Since the 1973 oil price shock following the Yom Kippur War, Washington and Wall Street have moved to ensure that OPEC, led by Saudi Arabia, would sell its oil only in US dollars. That insured that demand for the US currency could be more or less independent of the internal state of the US economy or of the Government debt or deficits. That system, dubbed petrodollar recycling by Henry Kissinger and others at the time, was a vital underpinning of US global ability to project its power at the same time it allowed its major corporations to walk away from national domestic taxes and investment, in the process of out-sourcing to places like China or Mexico, Ireland or even Russia. Were a significant group of nations to abandon the dollar and turn to other currencies or even barter at this point, it could start a chain-reaction of events that would lead to sharp US interest rate increases and a new US financial crisis that would be far uglier than that a decade ago.

US Sanction Mania

Ever since September 11, 2001 the US Government has been engaged in a process of transforming its use of financial sanctions, supposedly against financing of terrorist groups like Al Qaeda, into a central weapon of warfare in defense of the American Century. The latest decision of the US Treasury to impose radical new forms of targeted sanctions on Russia,
