Idlib – Reportage from the Last Front in Syria

Andre Vltchek

For a while, all the guns have fallen silent.

I am near Idlib, the last stronghold of the terrorists in Syria. The area where the deadliest anti-government fighters, most of them injected into Syria from Turkey, with Saudi, Qatari and Western ‘help’, are literally holed up, ready for the final showdown.

Just yesterday, mortars were falling on villages near the invisible frontline, separating government troops and the terrorist forces of Al Nusra Front. The day before yesterday, two explosions rocked the earth, only a couple of meters from where we are now standing.

They call it a ceasefire. But it’s not. It is one-sided. To be more precise: the Syrian army is waiting, patiently. Its cannons are pointing towards the positions of the enemy, but the orders from Damascus are clear: do not fire.

The enemy has no scruples. It provokes, endlessly. It fires and bombs, indiscriminately. It kills. Along the frontline, thousands of houses are already ruined. Nothing gets spared: residential districts, sport gymnasiums, even bakeries. There is an established routine: assaults by the terrorists, rescue operations organized by Syrian armed forces (SAA – Syrian Arab Army) and Syrian National Defense Forces, then immediate rebuilding of the damage.

Hundreds of thousands of Syrian people have lost their lives in this war. Millions had to leave their homeland. Millions have been internally displaced. For many, the conflict became a routine. Rescue operations became routine. Rebuilding tasks became routine, too.

Now, it is clear that the final victory is near. Syria survived the worse. It is still bleeding, but most of its territories are beginning to heal. People are slowly returning home, from Lebanon and Turkey, from Germany and elsewhere. They go through rubble – their former homes. They sit down and cry. Then, they get up and start rebuilding. That’s in other parts of the country: Duma, Homs, Aleppo, Deir ez-Zur.

But in the villages and towns north of Hama and towards Idlib, the war is far from being over.

In the town of Squalbiah, Commander Nabel Al-Abdallah of the National Defense Forces (NDF) explained to me:

SAA could easily use force and win militarily; it could take Idlib. But the SAA operates under command of President Assad,

On September 11, the US-led coalition and the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced that the SDF is kicking off a military operation to eliminate the ISIS-held pocket of Hajin in the Euphrates Valley. According to a coalition spokesman, the SDF ground advance will be backed up by coalition air and artillery strikes.

Hajin and nearby villages are the only remaining major ISIS stronghold in Syria, which the terrorist group actively uses to carry out attacks on the eastern and western banks of the Euphrates. Previously, the SDF repeatedly announced that it’s going to clear the pocket. However, by September 11, no real efforts had been taken in this field.

If the Hajin pocket is seized by the SDF, the US-backed fore will finally be able to declare the eastern bank of the Euphrates free from ISIS, at least technically.

More than 100 US Marines were sent as reinforcements to the US—led coalition garrison in the area of al-Tanf, according to a September 8 announcement by the Pentagon. Many MSM sources described this move as a self-defense effort amid the growing tensions between Russia and the US in the war-torn country.

On September 11, the Russian Center for Syrian Reconciliation in Syria stated that militants have already started filming a chemical weapons attack in the city of Jisr al-Shugur in the province of Idlib.

“According to the information received from inhabitants of Idlib province, militants are now filming a staged provocation in the city of Jisr al-Shugur, where “chemical weapons” are depicted as being used by the Syrian army against civilians. The film crews of several Middle Eastern TV channels arrived in Jisr al-Shugur in the morning, as well as the regional affiliate of one of the main American television news networks,” the Center said.

The plot (yet to be fully confirmed and corroborated) reportedly envisages staged scenes showing members of the White Helmets pretending to help civilians “after the Syrian army allegedly used the so-called barrel bombs with poisonous substances”.

On the same day, during a UN Security Council meeting, the Russian representative Vasily Nebenzya once again emphasized that terrorists in Idlib “must not be shielded because they all are one way or another linked to Al-Qaeda”.

The Monster of Idlib | New Eastern Outlook

The Monster of Idlib | New Eastern Outlook

09-09-18 05:01:00,

SYRI85772323

On September 3, 2018, in a “Tweet,” Donald Trump warned Russia, Syria and Iran that any attempt to kill the monster of Idlib would be resisted in some manner by the US. The monster, you see, is Donald Trump’s pet and Idlib, a region in Northwest Syria, is where he keeps it. It feeds on local children and roams the countryside at will.

Its friends are corporate news media, we know that for certain. You see, there has never been a photo of the monster published anywhere. Nearly 3 million people live, or at least used to, where the monster roams. Some ran away, others may have been eaten, but anyone who tries to find out gets caught, sometimes beheaded, sometimes put in prison or they simply disappear.

From here on, the reader is faced with a strange and sinister tale of a people living in fear. They have no rights, no dreams, no life at all, no purpose but one, to feed the monster.

Of course, the reader might well wonder why geopolitics are being “sorted out” with parable and allegory. Why use the term monster?

If the corporate media is to be believed, please don’t laugh, the people living in Idlib are under the watchful eye of “freedom fighters.” No one is kidnapping their children, no one is taking their homes, their food, their lives, no one is using them for human shield or slave labor.

We know this because the corporate media, the “fake news” as Trump calls it, tells us so. So, does Trump, in a way, as he wants the “monster,” as we have chosen to call it, to continue unchecked, unwatched, trusting the lives of 3 million people to its predations.

I consider that at best “unwise,” perhaps a bit more than that.

What is Idlib?

Let’s look at who rules Idlib. Idlib and adjacent occupied regions within the Aleppo Governorate are and have been part of Syria for 3000 years. Much of the bible is played out here. In fact, the oldest Hebrew Bible, the Aleppo Codex, dating from 930 C.E., originated there. Partially destroyed in 1947, the Codex was smuggled to Palestine in 1957 and is now housed at the Shrine of the Book in the Israel Museum.

Idlib: Al Qaeda’s Last Stand | New Eastern Outlook

The United States has raised tensions further amid Syria’s ongoing conflict. It has issued a threat in the form of a “warning” against Damascus against retaking the northern region of Idlib. More specifically, the US has accused Damascus of preparing chemical weapon attacks as part of its alleged strategy to retake the territory.

No evidence has been provided by the US to substantiate these accusations – and it is clear that the warning was actually a threat implicating a planned, staged provocation likely to be followed by US military aggression.

Idlib: Al Qaeda’s Syrian Capital

The northern city of Idlib has become the defacto capital for Al Qaeda in Syria.

It is home to Al Qaeda affiliates, partners, and allies including Tahrir al-Sham – formally Jabhat Al Nusra, a US State Department-listed Foreign Terrorist Organization, Nour al-Din al-Zenki – a US-armed and backed military front notorious for its many war atrocities involving torture and executions including the beheading of a child, and Ahrar al-Sham which has repeatedly cooperated with the self-proclaimed “Islamic State in Syria and Iraq” (ISIS).

The nature of the militants occupying Idlib is well known to Washington, London, Brussels, and the Persian Gulf nations sponsoring them. It is because of this knowledge that the West’s media monopolies work feverishly to cover up, deny, defend, or even excuse their atrocities.
When Idlib-based terrorist front Nour al-Din al-Zenki beheaded a child, the BBC disgracefully attempted to defend the atrocity by suggesting the boy was a “fighter,” and attempting to dispute his age, claiming:

…he appears to be as young as 10, although other reports suggest he is considerably older.

The BBC appears indifferent to the fact that if the victim had been a fighter and was over the age of 18, Nour al-Din al-Zenki would still be guilty of an egregious war crime.

BBC’s defense of war atrocities committed by terrorist organizations occupying Syrian territory is the rule, not the exception – not just for British state broadcaster BBC, but the Western media as a whole. From the beginning of the 2011 conflict, the BBC and others have played a direct role in covering up the terrorist affiliations of fighters attempting to overthrow the Syrian government.

The Battle for Idlib: Why is There a US Escalation? | New Eastern Outlook

The Battle for Idlib: Why is There a US Escalation? | New Eastern Outlook

06-09-18 09:34:00,

AMSF452343242

Idlib, which is most probably the last stronghold of terrorists in Syria, is going to face a Syrian offensive in the Syria government’s bid to re-capture the territory it had lost to foreign funded “rebels” few years ago. Re-taking Idlib would also lead war in Syria inches away from conclusion, which would specifically mean a startling defeat for all external elements that were seeking to bring Assad down. It is, therefore, not surprising to note that these elements have already started to stir things up in Syria as part of their plan to intensify the heat. Otherwise, why would the US secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, contend that the battle for Idlib would lead to an escalation when, in reality, it would rid Syria of a big terrorist group, numbering 10,000 only in Idlib? How fighting terrorists in Syria is escalation if doing the same thing in Afghanistan isn’t? The answer to this lies in America’s Syria strategy, the linchpin of which was, from the very beginning, “jihadi rebels.” Any battle, therefore, that seeks to eliminate these jihadi rebels would mean “escalation” in Washington; hence, the deliberate escalation through talks of another Syrian “chemical attack” and the US revenge plan.

While there isn’t going to be any “chemical attack” by the Syrian army, as there has never been in the past, it is obvious that the US, by attacking Syrian army targets, would only be protecting the terrorists of Al-Nusra front in Idlib. Certainly, attacking terrorists cannot in any way be escalation, but attacking a standing army, trying to rid its country of jihdis, would certainly cause escalation.

Sensing this, Russia has already announced its Naval drills in the Mediterranean Sea, where it says the US might strike Syria in response to a staged chemical attack by the (US supported) terrorists based in Idlib.

For the US, preventing the takeover of Idlib is necessary because it is its last hope to get back in Syrian end-game. The objective behind creating the “chemical attack” propaganda is obviously to make it as much difficult for Syria and Russia to achieve their objective as possible. As one US official was quoted in a western media report to have said, “Right now, our job is to help create quagmires [for Russia and the Syrian regime] until we get what we want.”

And the intended quagmire is to be based upon a staged chemical attack.

Syrië en Idlib – De tranen van oorlogsmisdadigers

Syrië en Idlib – De tranen van oorlogsmisdadigers

06-09-18 08:05:00,

In fasen

Idlib - 8 - Militaire situatie 26 augustus 2018

Armageddon in Idlib | New Eastern Outlook

Armageddon in Idlib | New Eastern Outlook

A showdown between the US and Russia is coming over Syria. Our sources inside Syria tell us that Russia began building up capabilities to support the Syrian Arab Army’s retaking of Idlib Province as early as June 2018. Included with new T90 tanks and advanced missile-based artillery are new air defense capabilities as well, along with ECM or electronic counter measures capabilities.

Russia is arming the Syrian Arab Army to fight not just al Qaeda and ISIS, the primary occupiers of Idlib, but the US, Britain and France as well.

The real war is between Russia and the US. America has no real ability to defend Idlib other than through the use of advisors, generally private military contractors, and supplying high technology armaments directly to organizations officially deemed terrorist by the US government.

The “dark horse” here, of course, is Turkey. Her military has jointly occupied much of Idlib with the nearly extinct Free Syrian Army, in its latest guise Turkish Army reservists in civilian dress.

This has been a problem with Turkey for some time, one that nearly destroyed Pakistan some years ago. I had a chance to go over this with Imran Khan one evening. We discussed the situation Pakistan faces, continual pressure from the US to fight terrorism while America itself is the one actually fostering the terrorism.

With Pakistan, it began during the 70s with Russia’s military intervention in Afghanistan. Pakistan became the route for American military support for the Taliban, then called the Mujahedeen. In the end, the war spilled over into Pakistan while Afghanistan became a narco-state under nominal US control and Pakistan ended up paying with a crushed economy and tens of thousands dead.

Now the same fate faces Turkey. America has built an army of Kurds on Turkey’s border while the US uses Turkey as a logistics base to build an army to threaten, now wait for it, Turkey.

Now Turkey is there, partially occupying Syria’s Idlib Province along with US supported terrorists that Russia and Syria are, quite inexorably, going to crush. It was America that put Turkey there, between two superpowers, each of which are capable of economic damage to Turkey which is more than consequential.

Turkey is then left to turn south to Israel and/or Saudi Arabia,

Idlib to Become Syria’s Final Battle With Terrorists… If the West Stays out of It (VIDEO)

Idlib to Become Syria’s Final Battle With Terrorists… If the West Stays out of It (VIDEO)

30-08-18 12:08:00,

Murad Gazdiev who has reported extensively from on the in Syria lays down the tense situation which again threatens to pit US and Russia against each other

Syrian forces are gearing up to take the last terrorist stronghold, the US is boosting its military presence, and Russia is warning of a false-flag chemical attack. RT looks at the aligning of forces ahead of the battle for Idlib.

American warships, cruise missile delivery systems, strategic bombers and other hardware has arrived to the Mediterranean and the Persian Gulf earlier this week. Washington is denying that any buildup is taking place, but Moscow says the assets are being gathered for a massive strike against the Syrian government.

A  provocation with chemical weapons, staged by the jihadists, will be used as a pretext for the attack, and Damascus will again be groundlessly accused of poisoning its own people, Russia said. In April, a massive bombardment of Syria by the US, UK and France was triggered by what Russia says was a similarly staged false-flag operation.

Jabhat al-Nusra and other militants in Idlib stand no chance against the Syrian military, backed by Russia and Iran, but Western interference may give them a fighting chance. The US and its allies are making every effort to preserve jihadist forces and use them to remove Syrian president Bashar Assad from power, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov recently said .

And if the violence escalates in Idlib, the two million strong population of the northern province will be put in grave danger as the terrorists basically hold the people hostage and use them as a human shield.

The Russian Reconciliation Center continues talks to achieve a peaceful resolution of the Idlib standoff. However, the militants seem reluctant to lay down their arms, which makes the coming days crucial for the fate of Idlib and the whole of Syria.
