Intelligence act will protect CIA agents who ‘commit war crimes,’ whistleblower Kiriakou tells RT

A new US bill would make it illegal to reveal the identity of a covert agent, even after their retirement or death, if it becomes law. Former CIA officer, and whistleblower, John Kiriakou told RT that it will protect wrongdoers.

The 2020 Intelligence Authorization bill passed the US House of Representatives last week, and will become law once agreed upon by the House and Senate. Aside from funding the US’ intelligence agencies for the forthcoming year, a provision in the act would dramatically expand a 1982 law that makes it a criminal offense to disclose the identities of covert officers.

Whereas the 1982 law protected agents who had served abroad in the preceding five years, the new provision would apply to anyone working in a classified position with the agencies, even after their retirement or death. The provision’s language was crafted by the CIA, who claim it necessary to protect agents from foreign adversaries.

“The only reason the CIA wants this thing on the books is to protect those CIA officers who have committed war crimes or crimes against humanity,” Kiriakou told RT’s ‘Watching the Hawks.’ As the existing law was not used to prosecute the CIA leadership who leaked the identities of their officers before (like former director David Petraeus, who divulged classified information to his extramarital girlfriend), Kiriakou said that it will more likely be used to protect headquarters-based officials “who were instrumental in creating and implementing the torture program, the illegal rendition program, and the secret prison program, nothing more.”

The law, Kiriakou continued, would prevent congressional oversight of CIA figures like current director Gina Haspel, who prior to heading the agency worked undercover for three decades, running a secret prison abroad, and heading the CIA’s office at Guantanamo Bay.

“With this new law it would be illegal for us to even have this conversation. We wouldn’t even be able to talk about Gina Haspel,” he said.

UN Works with Intelligence Contractors to Destabilize North Korea Dialogue

William CRADDICK

Just a few days after NBC News and National Public Radio (NPR) launched propaganda attempts to undermine the peace process between the United States and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), the United Nations has waded into the fray with a new attempt to build a case for retaining sanctions that have proven to be a sticking point between the negotiation teams.

Much like previous reports, the United Nation’s Panel of Experts (PoE) on North Korea utilized misleadingly interpreted satellite footage provided by private firms who have contractual connections to the CIA and Pentagon. The panel’s findings will ultimately be used to support policies that are aimed at playing on North Korean fears and make them more likely to withdraw or engage in counterproductive behavior.

I. Continued Misleading Interpretation Of Satellite Footage

The PoE’s claimed that the DPRK has been using an “underwater pipeline” at an oil terminal in Nampo, North Korea to offload fuel it receives by sanctioned methods. Much like with previous attempts to “prove” North Korean behavior with satellite imagery that did not actually show evidence of claimed activity the UN’s contentions are similarly based on shaky grounds.

Image: UN Panel of Experts

A second photo run by NKNews.org from private defense contractor Planet Labs purports to also show the “underwater pipeline.” NK News claimed that the underwater pipeline had been used since 2018 solely based on the fact that ships moved in and out of the area, which is obviously designated for mooring.

There are a number of problems with both the photos provided by the Panel of Experts and the Planet Labs image published by NK News. These issues are outlined below.

  • None of the images shows where the “underwater pipeline” comes ashore. It is not visible under the water’s surface, even where the shoreline is shallow.
  • None of the cables connecting to the ship are pipelines. They are cabling used to moor the ship in place.
  • All of the buoys are in place to mark either mooring cables or the ship’s anchor which would have been dropped alongside it once it came to a stop.

British Intelligence Masterminded the Miami Showband Massacre in Northern Ireland? Survivor Claims in New Documentary – Global Research

british-intelligence-masterminded-the-miami-showband-massacre-in-northern-ireland-survivor-claims-in-new-documentary-8211-global-research

Musician Stephen Travers hopes a new documentary on a notorious massacre in the north of Ireland during the Troubles will lead to justice almost 50 years later.

In a new Netflix documentary released later this month he says that the 1975 Miami Showband Massacre was not a random sectarian attack but was masterminded by British intelligence services.

Three members of the band, one of Ireland’s most popular, were killed in the attack by the loyalist paramilitary Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF).

They were heading to Dublin in their van when they were stopped by uniformed men at what looked like a random army checkpoint near Newry in Co Down and shot.

Bass player Mr Travers had only joined the band six weeks earlier. He tells how the “soldiers” fitted a bomb underneath the van which detonated early.

Watch the trailer below.

The blast and subsequent shootings left three band members dead: Brian McCoy, Tony Geraghty and lead singer Fran O’Toole, who was shot 22 times at close range.

Mr Travers believes the band was deliberately targeted due to its popularity among Irish nationalists.

He claimed the killings were masterminded by the loyalist paramilitary Ulster Volunteer Force’s brigadier Robin “the Jackal” Jackson, working closely with British intelligence services. At least four of the gunmen were soldiers from the British Army’s Ulster Defence Regiment (UDR).

The shady Glennane Gang, a secret informal alliance of loyalists who carried out killings of Catholics and nationalists, have been implicated in the killings. Members are thought to have acted as double agents for British military intelligence.

“We were targeted because the British wanted our government to seal the border so that the IRA wouldn’t be able to cross easily into the relative safety of the south after committing some sort of atrocity,” Mr Travers told the Belfast Telegraph.

He said the band would have been branded terrorists, with guns planted in the van, had the bomb not exploded early.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland’s historical inquiries team, which was disbanded in 2014, confirmed Mr Jackson’s involvement in the killings.

His fingerprints were found on a pistol used in the attack.

Intelligence officials around Trump push President towards destructive path (Video)

02-02-19 02:10:00,

A day after Trump criticized US intelligence agency chiefs over their assessments of global threats, the US President is now reversing gears on his critique, saying that he and the intelligence community “are all on the same page.”

According to the AP, Trump met with his director of national intelligence and other top security officials in the Oval Office and said afterward that they told him their testimony at a Senate hearing had been “mischaracterized” by the news media.

The officials told Congress on Tuesday that North Korea is unlikely to dismantle its nuclear arsenal and that the Iran nuclear deal is working, contrary to what Trump has claimed.

The intelligence agency chiefs “said that they were totally misquoted and … it was taken out of context,” Trump told reporters at the White House. “They said it was fake news.”

Trump tweeted Thursday that he and the intelligence leaders “are very much in agreement on Iran, ISIS, North Korea, etc.” and that he values their service.

“Happily, we had a very good meeting, and we are all on the same page!” he wrote.

RT CrossTalk host Peter Lavelle and The Duran’s Alex Christoforou take a quick look at US President Donald Trump’s shifting position on whether he agrees with his Intelligence team’s assessment of various threats to American hegemony.

American Intelligence chiefs presented an update to the Senate intelligence committee on Tuesday on their annual assessment of global threats, broadcast on C-SPAN, where they warned of an increasingly diverse range of security dangers from North Korean nuclear weapons to Chinese cyber espionage and Russian campaigns to undermine Western democracies.

After the Intelligence briefing U.S. President Trump said intelligence officials were wrong about North Korea, Iran and the Islamic State, which they said remains a terrorist and insurgent threat.

Trump later tweeted on Wednesday that, “perhaps Intelligence should go back to school!”

US President Donald Trump has reversed course on his spymasters’ threat assessment, insisting his initial negative reaction – in which he dismissed their reports as “wrong” and “naïve” – was based on (what else?) fake news.

British Intelligence Infiltrates Voice of Europe Media Outlet

Via Disobedient Media

In a startling revelation, an editor for major populist online publication Voice of Europe is accused of working for British police intelligence as part of a program targeting political organizations in the UK and broader Europe. The alleged breach comes several weeks after Disobedient Media highlighted the danger of the UK becoming involved with the Gilets Jaunes protests for geopolitical gain.

Individuals at the center of the incident warn that it may have been part of a wider British program targeting anti-establishment organizations such as Wikileaks as well as right-wing movements and politicians throughout the US and Europe.

Disappearance Leads To Scrutiny Of Voice Of Europe’s Editor

The operation was first exposed on January 1, 2019 by independent researcher Nicholas Monroe, who had grown concerned over the disappearance of Peter Imanuelson, a Norwegian-born UK national living in North Yorkshire and blogging under the alias Peter Sweden. Imanuelson, who was known for his affiliation with identitarian and populist movements in Europe such as Defend Europe, had caused alarm by ceasing his usually constant Twitter activity for the month of December 2018. Monroe’s investigation revealed troubling indications that Imanuelson had become wrapped up in a British police intelligence operation that has been known to target right-wing and far-left political movements across Europe.

Imanuelson had become engaged in November to an editor and “second in command” of the right-wing populist news website Voice of Europe. The editor, known by the moniker of “Laura Cat,” claims to be a 25-year-old unmarried woman. However, “Laura Cat’s” own social media posts established that she is in fact a married mother whose brother in law is an employee of the UK Metropolitan police.

In 2009, the Guardian revealed that a British police officer had traveled to 22 different countries on a fake passport including Ireland, Iceland and Spain. Targeted movements included green, “anti-racist” and anarchist groups. Kennedy was a member of the National Public Order Intelligence Unit, a secretive organization run by a private limited company which allows it to remain exempt from freedom of information laws and other public accountability checks and balances.

Artificial Intelligence Could Soon Determine Humanity’s Fate

artificial-intelligence-could-soon-determine-humanitys-fate

20-12-18 04:08:00,

There could be no more consequential decision than launching atomic weapons and possibly triggering a nuclear holocaust. President John F. Kennedy faced just such a moment during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 and, after envisioning the catastrophic outcome of a U.S.-Soviet nuclear exchange, he came to the conclusion that the atomic powers should impose tough barriers on the precipitous use of such weaponry. Among the measures he and other global leaders adopted were guidelines requiring that senior officials, not just military personnel, have a role in any nuclear-launch decision.

That was then, of course, and this is now. And what a now it is! With artificial intelligence, or AI, soon to play an ever-increasing role in military affairs, as in virtually everything else in our lives, the role of humans, even in nuclear decision-making, is likely to be progressively diminished. In fact, in some future AI-saturated world, it could disappear entirely, leaving machines to determine humanity’s fate.

This isn’t idle conjecture based on science fiction movies or dystopian novels. It’s all too real, all too here and now, or at least here and soon to be. As the Pentagon and the military commands of the other great powers look to the future, what they see is a highly contested battlefield — some have called it a “hyperwar” environment — where vast swarms of AI-guided robotic weapons will fight each other at speeds far exceeding the ability of human commanders to follow the course of a battle. At such a time, it is thought, commanders might increasingly be forced to rely on ever more intelligent machines to make decisions on what weaponry to employ when and where. At first, this may not extend to nuclear weapons, but as the speed of battle increases and the “firebreak” between them and conventional weaponry shrinks, it may prove impossible to prevent the creeping automatization of even nuclear-launch decision-making.

Such an outcome can only grow more likely as the U.S. military completes a top-to-bottom realignment intendedto transform it from a fundamentally small-war, counter-terrorist organization back into one focused on peer-against-peer combat with China and Russia. This shift was mandated by the Department of Defense in its December 2017 National Security Strategy. Rather than focusing mainly on weaponry and tactics aimed at combating poorly armed insurgents in never-ending small-scale conflicts,

Why is “Intelligence” the Mother of All Stupidity? | New Eastern Outlook

why-is-intelligence-the-mother-of-all-stupidity-new-eastern-outlook

9790-2

When listening to political leaders in the West, particularly when describing Syria or “Palestinian terrorists” or the threat from Russia and China, for those with critical thinking ability the statements heard are puzzling. One can’t help but ask, “How do humans get this stupid?

One might also ask, “How do they get elected to public office in supposedly ‘freedom loving democracies,’ but we don’t need to go there now.”

One way of understanding how those who represent the collective efforts of multi-billion-dollar information gathering organizations and the virtual armies of analysts, advisors and experts, and how they get nearly everything so wrong requires an understanding of “process,” or rather “lack thereof.”

Perhaps this is why Donald Trump won’t listen to the FBI or CIA and has, and this author believes quite mistakenly, turned to the Fox News organization or Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Trump, as with many, is susceptible to crafted narratives that resemble TV fiction. This might well be because the “news” from Fox and other networks, networks that also produce heavily propagandized fictional entertainment as well, is as “fake” as Trump says but even more fake at Fox but told with a more compelling narrative.

As for Israel, their motives are always suspect, a 60 year plus history of ethnic cleansing of what had been 85% of their population, continual bombing and strafing within their own borders and broad involvement in regional mischief, supporting terrorists and working closely with repressive regimes around the world.

The description above, the one regarding Israel, might also be a broader description of the typical behavior of a “western democracy.” One easily forgets that the roots of these “democracies” are the monarchical nation states that grew up after the “dark ages,” lightly touched by renaissance and reformation but more boldly formed by industrialization and the ensuing rape of the planet’s resources and population. These are strong words, they are also words that describe “history” with uncanny accuracy.

The issue at hand, however, is how, in this “age of information,” has “wrong-headedness” become so endemic among political circles?

The easiest target, of course, are intelligence agencies, and topping that list is the CIA. The real history of the CIA is as secretive as the history of the American Federal Reserve Bank or the Bank of England,
