Facebook suspends anti-mask group that branded face coverings a form of ‘enslavement’

21-07-20 03:39:00,

A Facebook group called ‘Unmasking America’ which claimed that masks were a “psychological anchor for suppression” has been suspended by the social media platform under its coronavirus misinformation policies.

Here to speak the TRUTH about masks!” read the ‘about’ page of Unmasking America. It was just one of many groups on Facebook posting messages decrying mask-wearing as a form of “enslavement,” and inaccurately claiming that donning masks limits the wearer’s oxygen intake.

Consisting of some 10,000 users, the group was removed after Facebook found that it was spreading false information repeatedly in violation of the tech giant’s policies. Among the postings were ‘mask exemption cards’ from the “Freedom to Breathe Agency.” These cards, sold online, purport to offer the bearer an exemption from donning a mask, but are fraudulent and carry no legal weight. However, they were popular enough that federal officials had to alert the public about them.

Wearing a face mask posses [sic] a mental and/or physical risk to me. Under the Americans with Disability Act (ADA), I am not required to disclose my condition to you,” read the cards, which misspelled “poses” and cited the incorrect title of the relevant legislation, the Americans with Disabilities Act.

My office has received reports of individuals attempting to use a “Face Mask Exempt Card” to evade Palm Beach County’s mandatory mask order. Please note that such cards have NO legal authority and businesses should not alter their mask policies based on them. 1/ pic.twitter.com/5Oc0s1wAJQ

Unmasking America is one of a plethora of groups that have emerged since the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended in June that people wear masks.

When a group shares “misinformation” repeatedly, Facebook will effectively shadow ban it by lowering its prominence in user feeds and by halting suggestions that people join the group, strangling its growth. During the coronavirus pandemic, Facebook has been under increased pressure to be even tougher on the spreading of false information.

Twitter Suspends Account Of Biotech Company Testing UV Light To Treat Coronavirus

27-04-20 09:31:00,

Twitter has suspended the account of a Colorado biotech company which is working with Cedars-Sinai to test and develop a potential coronavirus treatment using UV light inserted into the lungs – the same week as Homeland Security’s head of Science and Technology, Bill Bryan, suggested that UV light could have a significant affect on viruses such as COVID-19.

The suspension of Aytu BioScience’s account comes shortly after YouTube removed a video demonstrating the technology (which can be seen below on Vimeo).

— Mike Coudrey (@MichaelCoudrey) April 26, 2020

Here’s a screenshot of Aytu CEO Josh Disbrow sharing the now-removed YouTube video, while tagging the now-banned Twitter account.

Aytu’s “Healight” is a medical device which administers intermittent ultraviolet (UV-A) light inside a patient’s trachea, which has the “potential to positively impact outcomes for critically ill patients infected with coronavirus and severe respiratory infections,” according to a corporate press release.

The company is working with the Medically Associated Science and Technology (MAST) team at Cedars-Sinai medical center, and are seeking expedited FDA approval for near-term use of the technology.

Twitter and YouTube’s ban of Aytu couldn’t have anything to do with this, could it?

Twitter Suspends Accounts For Propaganda, Has Literal Propagandist As High-Level Executive

01-10-19 08:04:00,

Middle East Eye‘s Ian Cobain has published an exclusive titled “Twitter executive for Middle East is British Army ‘psyops’ soldier”, exposing the fact that Twitter’s senior editorial executive for Europe, the Middle East and Africa also works for an actual, literal propaganda unit in the British military called the 77th Brigade. Which is mighty interesting, considering the fact that Twitter constantly suspends accounts from non-empire-aligned nations based on the allegation that they are engaging in propaganda.

“The senior Twitter executive with editorial responsibility for the Middle East is also a part-time officer in the British Army’s psychological warfare unit,” Cobain writes. “Gordon MacMillan, who joined the social media company’s UK office six years ago, has for several years also served with the 77th Brigade, a unit formed in 2015 in order to develop ‘non-lethal’ ways of waging war. The 77th Brigade uses social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, as well as podcasts, data analysis and audience research to wage what the head of the UK military, General Nick Carter, describes as ‘information warfare’.”

EXCLUSIVE: Twitter executive for Middle East is British Army ‘psyops’ soldier https://t.co/wU7TO9vgia

— Ian Cobain (@IanCobain) September 30, 2019

MacMillan’s presence in a government psyops unit was not a secret; until Middle East Eye began raising questions on the matter, it was right there on his LinkedIn profile. This is not something that anyone considering him for promotion was likely to have been unaware of. According to his (now-edited) LinkedIn page, MacMillan has been in his current position as Head of Editorial EMEA since July 2016. According to Middle East Eye, MacMillan was already a captain in the 77th Brigade by the end of 2016. His current rank there is being hidden behind a wall of government secrecy.

When questioned by Middle East Eye about MacMillan’s work in the British Army’s online propaganda program, Twitter hilariously responded, “Twitter is an open, neutral and rigorously independent platform. We actively encourage all our employees to pursue external interests in line with our commitment to healthy corporate social responsibility, and we will continue to do so.”

That’s very nice of Twitter,

US Suspends All Passenger And Cargo Flights To Venezuela

16-05-19 10:35:00,

Though all of the major US carriers have already ended their flights to Caracas, the Department of Homeland Security has officially suspended all air traffic – passenger and cargo – between the US and Venezuela due to the “ongoing political stability and increased tensions.”

The decision follows a failed uprising spurred by opposition leader Juan Guaido, who is recognized as the legitimate ruler of Venezuela by the US and about 50 other countries, and growing speculation that strongman Nicolas Maduro will hold on to power, since the country’s military and pro-government militias have firmly backed him, the FT reports.

One of the worst humanitarian crises in the world has been festering in Venezuela for about five years now, spurred by chronic mismanagement under the Maduro regime, and that of his predecessor, Hugo Chavez. Because of security concerns, rapid inflation, the difficulty of moving capital out of the country, and a shortage of passengers, most US airlines have already suspended flights.

Of the 32 foreign airlines operating in Venezuela in 2013, only about one-third remain active in the country, and the number of seats on international flights have fallen by 80%. American Airlines was the last major carrier to suspend flights to VZ, which it did in March.

While a few small carriers will be impacted by the ban, Venezuelans who rely on donations or remittances from relatives living abroad to survive, will be hurt by the decision, according to the New York Times. Many have relied on courier services from Miami to obtain hard-to-come-by medication, spare parts and foods.

“This will be a catastrophe for a lot of people,” said Feliciano Reyna, head of the health nonprofit Acción Solidaria, which receives medical donations from the United States through air courier services. “This will complicate enormously the transportation of humanitarian aid to the country.”

Accion Solidaria and other groups will now be forced to import their meds by sea or ship them through other countries, which will raise the cost and further restrict supply.

One airline that will be impacted: Avior Airlines, Venezuela’s largest private airline, which has operated daily flights to Miami from Caracas and the eastern city of Puerto La Cruz.

Twitter suspends Venezuela govt accounts… and verifies opposition leader Guaido

02-05-19 09:51:00,

Twitter users have lashed out at the site over its inconsistencies after it suspended some Venezuelan government and media accounts, but verified a new account for self-declared ‘interim president’ Juan Guaido.

The Ministry of Popular Power for Women, the Ministry of Popular Power for Education, and the Ministry of Popular Power for Petroleum were all suspended between April 30 and May 1, along with several Venezuelan media accounts including El Correo del Orinoco, the Diario Vea, and the television station ViVe Televisión.

The ministry accounts have since been reinstated, but the media accounts are still suspended.

On Monday, the newly-formed National Communication Center for Guaido set up a Presidencia_VE Twitter account claiming to be the “official account of the presidency of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela” which has since been verified by Twitter. Guaido’s account is also verified.

We need optional platforms rather than #Twitter and #Facebook. That’s the only alternative to avoid these corporations to silence the left media.

Twitter announced it was suspending its verification process in 2017, after it came under fire for verifying the organizer of the Charlottesville Unite the Right rally. “Our verified account program is currently on hold. We are not accepting any new requests at this time,” it explains in its FAQ page.

The company recently responded to outrage when it was revealed that it had continued to verify accounts, explaining, “our teams around the world continue to work closely with trusted partners to verify select accounts.”
