Swiss govt warns voters against canceling EU free-movement accord in referendum

swiss-govt-warns-voters-against-canceling-eu-free-movement-accord-in-referendum

The Swiss government on Tuesday urged voters to reject a referendum push by the right-wing Swiss People’s Party to end a pact with the European Union on the free movement of citizens. Should the measure win a binding vote on May 17, the country risks losing its privileged access to the EU single market that is the lifeblood of the export-led Swiss economy.

The referendum is being called Switzerland’s ‘Brexit moment,’ Reuters said. It could also end up kicking neutral Switzerland, which is not a member of the EU, out of the Schengen system of passport-free travel and the Dublin accord on handling asylum requests, officials said in a statement ahead of a news conference.

“That would have painful consequences, primarily for security and asylum issues but also for border traffic and freedom to travel,” the government said.

The referendum drive reflects unease with the influx of foreigners. Immigration contributed a net 55,000 people last year. The foreign population stood at 2.1 million, or around a quarter of the overall 8.5 million.

“With 5G, We are Guinea Pigs”: Swiss Magazine Reports First 5G Injuries in Geneva – Global Research

“with-5g,-we-are-guinea-pigs”:-swiss-magazine-reports-first-5g-injuries-in-geneva-–-global-research

This article was originally published in French on L’illustré, translated into English by Claire Edwards on EMFacts Consultancy.

Since 5G antennas were installed near their home in the heart of Geneva, these residents of the same area suffer from various health problems. Are they victims of a technology whose dangers were not sufficiently tested? A doctor and member of parliament speaks out.

Gathered in the apartment of one of the two, on the fifth floor of a building in the centre of Geneva, these residents of the same area look at each other. What they have in common is insomnia, tinnitus, headaches. And a lot of unanswered questions. The youngest, Johan Perruchoud, 29, has lived there for 11 years and is not the type to cultivate any sort of hatred of invasive technology. He is a healthy young man, active and positive, who has just returned from four years in New York and makes finely crafted videos and films for the media or for individuals, often working in his room with his computer.

“Like in a microwave oven”

For him and for his neighbour it all started in April.

“I’ve never had a problem with Wi- Fi or any of that and never had problems sleeping – and then suddenly I had trouble falling asleep. In particular at home I felt – how can I put it? – like I was in a microwave. I didn’t feel good in the house, as if I was surrounded by ghosts.”

When he looked on Facebook and on the website of the Confederation, he saw that three 5G antennas had been put into service nearby and that other people were complaining of identical problems, headaches, tiredness.

“Was it psychological? I don’t know. But for the first time, although I have never had earaches while composing my music, my ears started whistling. It woke me up at night. All of this was unusual.”

He was assailed by the unpleasant sensation of being used, caught up in something not of his own making. So he called Swisscom. Scarcely ten minutes after he had filled out the basic form, a representative called him back sounding all empathetic.

Don’t Mess With The Swiss!

don’t-mess-with-the-swiss!

A Fortress, Disguised As A Country

Morgarten, Switzerland – Here, in 1315, a force of Swiss mountaineers ambushed an invading force of Austrian feudal knights who had come to reassert Hapsburg feudal rule over the rebellious Swiss.

The burly Swiss farmers and woodsmen from the forest cantons Unterwalden, Uri and Schwytz fell upon the close-packed Austrian knights and men-at-arms, using long pikes or deadly pole axes known as halbards, and massacred them without quarter.

Two years later, a second Austrian expeditionary force was caught by the Swiss peasant infantry near Lucerne at Sempach and crushed.

These fierce battles were the first time in modern history that foot soldiers had withstood heavily armored mounted knights. These epochal encounters marked the beginning of the end of European feudalism and the rise of infantry armies. They also freed Switzerland’s forest cantons of Austrian rule, creating Europe’s first independent democratic state, the Swiss Confederation.

The always-astute Machiavelli said of the Swiss warriors: ‘Most heavily armed, most free.’ Indeed, most free to this day.

Those who think of Switzerland as a quaint land of cuckoo clocks and chocolate are sorely mistaken. To paraphrase Voltaire’s bon mot about Prussia, Switzerland is a giant fortress, disguised as a country.

I attended school and university in Switzerland. Over the decades, I kept hearing about mountains opening up to disgorge warplanes, or cliffs studded with hidden artillery. But even my Swiss friends didn’t know much about these seemingly fantastic sightings.

Fifteen years ago, I was the guest of the Swiss Fortress Guard Corps, a top-secret military outfit that operates Switzerland’s mountain fortresses. I was one of the first non-Swiss to be shown the mountain forts that guard the heart of the nation’s ‘Alpine Redoubt.’ What I was shown astounded me – and continues to do so.

In the late 1930’s, as one European nation after another bowed down to Hitler’s demands, the Swiss military and its popular rifle clubs, banded together and decided their nation would not bend the knee as the Czechs, Dutch, Norwegians, Belgians, and then the French had done.

New Swiss Studies Claim 5G Increases Body Temperature of Insects. Old Research Claims 5G Causes The Same In Humans Along With Excessive Sweating.

new-swiss-studies-claim-5g-increases-body-temperature-of-insects-old-research-claims-5g-causes-the-same-in-humans-along-with-excessive-sweating.

Research has already determined that exposure to all sources of cell phone and wireless WiFi radiation is harmful to all living beings – including insects.

New Swiss research has found that insects’ body temperature increase when exposed to 5G.

From Androidpit.com

The Swiss organization Pro Natura has published new studies, which indicate that the frequencies used by 5G increase the body temperature of insects. Are we taking another step against nature?

Both insects and 5G need antennas: insects use them as an olfactory organ, and 5G use them to propagate waves, which are invisible, but not harmless. Now, new studies indicate that insects are sensitive to 5G waves: A recent study has shown that insects exposed to 5G radiation have experienced an increase in their body temperature.

[…]

The study is based on the fact that, with current development, telecommunication systems will move from 6 GHz used by 2G, 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi networks to frequencies up to 120 GHz used by 5G networks. According to the scientists in charge, the frequency range around 6 GHz does not pose any risk to the health of insects, but from 10 GHz an increase in temperature is observed in the body of exposed individuals. This means that the use of the 5G could cause a reaction in insects, altering their behavior and physiology.

Research has also determined that humans exposed to 5G may experience an increase in body temperature which can cause excessive sweating.

In February, telecom industry representatives gave congressional testimony that they could offer NO scientific evidence that 5G is safe.

So anyone who claims that 5G exposure is safe is defending a product its providers won’t even defend (see 1, 2).

The worldwide opposition to 5G is increasing every day and for multiple reasons – not only biological and environmental risks.  Please see Activist Post archives for more details.

Swiss “Socialist Paradise” Approves ‘Universal Basic Income’ Of $2,750 A Month

Swiss “Socialist Paradise” Approves ‘Universal Basic Income’ Of $2,750 A Month

11-09-18 09:48:00,

Two years after the people of Switzerland overwhelmingly voted against establishing an “unconditional” Universal Basic Income (i.e. ‘free money’ for every man, woman and child in the country of roughly 8 million), one village has decided to go ahead with the experiment.

Per Bloomberg, the village of Rheinau, which is situated on the banks of the Rhine river roughly an hour’s train ride from Zurich, is planning to hand out 2,500 francs ($2,750) a month to every inhabitant. But for the program to move forward, more than half of the village’s residents had to say yes.

A village in Switzerland has decided to go ahead with an experiment on basic income, with a payout of 2,500 francs ($2,570) per month.

More than 50 percent of the inhabitants of Rheinau, close to the German border, signed up for the project, according to the organizers website. At least half the 1,300 inhabitants needed to say ‘yes,’ and the count stood at 692 on Monday.

And according to the most recent count, they have, according to the initiative’s website (however, these figures still need to be checked against the village’s voting records). Nearly 700 Rheinau residents (out of the village’s population of 1,300) have signed up for the plan, which was organized by filmmaker Rebecca Panian. Panian ultimately hopes to make a documentary about the experiment (a film that, we imagine, will be among the most expensive documentaries ever produced). To be sure, the Rheinau plan will differ markedly from other UBI experiments in that earnings and government benefits will be deducted from individuals’ payments, which should make the project exponentially easier to finance.

Like other UBI “experiments,” including one that began this year in Stockton, Calif., the money for the initiative must come from “private” sources (the village plans to launch a crowdfunding campaign to help finance the “experiment).

Given growing wealth inequality across the developed world, support for a UBI has increased dramatically in recent years, a phenomenon that analysts have also attributed to rising fears about the potential job-killing impact of automation.

Swiss Mining Corporations in Flagrant Violation of Human Rights – Swiss Government Complicit | Global Research – Centre for Research on Globalization

Swiss Mining Corporations in Flagrant Violation of Human Rights – Swiss Government Complicit | Global Research – Centre for Research on Globalization

09-04-18 01:41:00,

Violent attacks have been carried out by the copper mining giant Glencore’s security forces and Glencore-contracted national police on defenseless women and even children, on the poorest of the poor segment of Peru’s population. Glencore, is a Swiss registered Anglo-Swiss mining corporation, exploiting mineral resources in developing countries around the globe, where they pay almost no taxes, as their profit center is in Switzerland, in Baar, Canton Zug, one of the Cantons, that has the lowest tax rates in Switzerland.

In addition, none of the socioenvironmental standards, to protect the environment and the local communities, are generally applied in developing countries. In the specific case of Peru, local laws are totally ignored. In fact, never mind Peruvian laws, they are like non-existent for the corporate world; they are simply bought. Never mind Glencore’s own “Due Diligence” rules, they are not respected in a country so corrupt, where laws, judges, lawyers, police, politicians – and even medical facilities are bought.

Above Espinar, on about 4,000 to 4,200 m elevation, Glencore operates open pit copper mining complexes, Tintaya and Antapaccay (“Antapaccay” was a Peruvian mining company bought by Glencore in 2013). The mine is also yielding gold (copper and gold usually go together), at the tune of some 221,000 tons of copper and 115,000 Troy ounces of gold per year (Troy ounce = 31.1 grams). Both figures are for 2016. To do so, Glencore moves some 80,000 to 100,000 tons of earth and rock per day.

An adjacent new mining area, Coroccohuayco, is being explored for continuous exploitation as the current mine is approaching its end. The capacity of this mining complex is estimated at 20 to 30 years, about two and a half generations of rural dwellers will be exposed to this horrendous Glencore atrocities and injustice, if nobody takes actions in their defense. Plus, after the mine is fully exploited, the miners usually packs up and leave – leaving an environmental disaster of poisoned soil and water – what’s left of it – behind. Restauration of such huge areas of mining ruins can take hundreds, if not thousands of years.

Glencore, with a total production of 1.23 million tons (2016) is the world’s third largest copper producer,

$11,589.01?… Ask The Swiss!

$11,589.01?… Ask The Swiss!

27-01-18 10:54:00,

Authored by Kevin Muir via The Macro Tourist blog,

$11,589.01.

That’s the US dollar amount of American stocks the Swiss National Bank owns on behalf of every man, woman and child in Switzerland. Let that sink in.

A Central Bank has taken on itself to expand its balance sheet and invest in the proceeds, not in gold, nor sovereign debt – heck not even in corporate bonds. Nope, the SNB has taken it upon itself to “invest” that money in another country’s most risky part of the capital structure – equity.

And don’t think it’s a small number. It’s almost $100 billion US dollars.

In a strange twist of fate, the Swiss National Bank is not only Switzerland’s Central Bank, but also a publicly traded security. I know, it makes little sense, but in this day and age, what does? Anyways, the financial community is all abuzz with SNB’s rocket ship chart formation.

The SNB’s equity price market capitalization is only 584 million CHF, so when you consider that the S&P 500 is up almost 6% since the start of the year, and that the SNB owns $100 billion of stocks which are up $6 billion USD during the last two months, maybe it makes sense to take a punt of buying some SNB equity. Now, who really knows how to value this security? Those gains should accrue to Swiss citizens as opposed to SNB equity holders, but it’s easy to understand the excitement.

The real problem

It’s all fun and good to speculate on the SNB equity price, but I am more interested in what the SNB’s behaviour means for the global markets going forward.

The real problem is that a Central Bank just monetized their balance sheet against another country’s equity market, and instead of getting punished for this reckless behaviour, the markets are celebrating the Swiss good fortune. And I ask you – have you ever seen Central Bankers not behave like a bunch of antelopes on the Serengeti? It is an amazingly disturbing precedent.

The Swiss National Bank has gone down a rabbit hole from which it will be extremely difficult to surface.

Swiss Town Denies Passport To Dutch Vegan For Being “Too Annoying”

Swiss Town Denies Passport To Dutch Vegan For Being “Too Annoying”

19-01-18 09:31:00,

While the Trump administration faces judicial blocks at every turn when it comes to immigration, it appears the Swiss are a little more creative with their citizenship.

A Dutch vegan who applied for a Swiss passport has had her application rejected because the locals found her too annoying.

https://www.zerohedge.com/sites/default/files/inline-images/20180118_vegan1.png

As Yahoo UK’s Andy Wells reports, Nancy Holten, 42, moved to Switzerland from the Netherlands when she was eight years old and now has children who are Swiss nationals.

However, when she tried to get a Swiss passport for herself, residents of Gipf-Oberfrick in the canton of Aargau rejected her application.

The resident’s committee argued that if she does not accept Swiss traditions and the Swiss way of life, she should not be able to become an official national.

https://www.zerohedge.com/sites/default/files/inline-images/20180118_vegan.png

“The animals carry around five kilograms around their neck. It causes friction and burns to their skin.”

She added: “The sound that cow bells make is a hundred decibel. It is comparable with a pneumatic drill. We also would not want such a thing hanging close to our ears?”

https://www.zerohedge.com/sites/default/files/inline-images/20180118_vegan2.png

Tanja Suter, the president of the local Swiss People’s Party, claimed Ms Holten has a “big mouth” and that residents did not want to grant her citizenship “if she annoys us and doesn’t respect our traditions”.

Ms Holten, who describes herself as a freelance journalist, model and drama student, has also campaigned against a number of other Swiss traditions like hunting, pig races and the noisy church bells in town.

She was previously rejected for citizenship in 2015 after residents voted to block her initial application.

The case has now been transferred to the Cantonal government in Aargau, which can overrule the decision and can still grant her a Swiss passport despite the objections of the locals.

Local residents in Switzerland often have a say in citizenship applications, which are decided by the cantons and towns where the applicants live rather than federal government.
