Which Is Natural: Poverty or Wealth?, by Fred Foldvary, Ph.D. | Progress.org

15-03-21 11:59:00,

The natural condition of humanity is wealth and prosperity, not poverty. As stated by Nelson Mandela, “Like slavery and apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man-made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings.”

Others have said the opposite, that poverty is natural. Writing in Forbes, Tim Worstall noted that the average income from ancient times until the 1500s was only $450 per year. Steven Pinker, in Enlightenment Now, states (p. 25) that poverty “is the default state of humankind.” This, he says, is because of entropy: things dissipate and fall into disorder unless work is done to reverse this. The natural state is to fall apart, and starve.

To analyze whether it is poverty or else prosperity that is natural, we need to clarify the meaning of “natural”. The distinction is between nature and human action. “Nature” is anything apart from human action. The deliberate acts of persons constitute human action. Therefore all of culture and acts influenced by culture and personal preferences are non-natural.

What, then, is “poverty”? A person is economically poor if he does not have sufficient income or wealth to provide oneself and one’s dependents with sufficient food, shelter, and medications to preserve their lives and good health. A society has substantial poverty when the people are unable to obtain goods above a poverty or subsistence level. The ultimate origins of income are labor and land, and therefore, the prevalence of poverty implies that for many, wages plus received rent are not sufficient to avoid economic deprivation.

No human being lives apart from culture and produced goods. Thus no person can have a purely natural existence. By the above definition, incomes are non-natural, as they are dependent on human action as well as on natural resources. By the above definition, the proposition that poverty is natural is neither true nor false, but rather, meaningless.

What did Mandela mean when he said that poverty is not natural? He meant that poverty is caused by human action. People could rise above poverty if not for coercive acts by others preventing them from rising. These acts by others generate poverty by using force, and the agent that can apply general force is, government. The implication is that poverty is not generally caused by a lack of natural resources,

Which new weapon was used in the Gulf and in Beirut?

05-08-20 08:27:00,

At the beginning of July, a new weapon was deployed against 7 Iranian ships in the Persian Gulf [1], then again on 4 August rocking the port of Beirut.

In all eight cases, the smoke cloud bore no resemblance to that generated by a conventional explosion; what rose instead was a mushroom cloud like in an atomic explosion.

In Beirut, the blast caused the ground to shake in a radius of 200 kilometers, at a magnitude of 3.5 on the Richter scale, according to the German Geoscience Center (GFZ). It was this vibration and not the explosion itself that destroyed many parts of the city.

The detonation also caused a giant wave and destroyed cars adjacent to the port, without however displacing them or the water sideways, but rather as if pressure had been exerted directly on the sea and on the site of the disaster.

These attacks come as the judgment of the United Nations Special Tribunal for Lebanon is to take place on 7 August [2]. It will in all likelihood be postponed.

[1] This attack was alluded to in “Lebanon faced with its responsibilities”, by Thierry Meyssan, Translation Roger Lagassé, Voltaire Network, 22 July 2020.

Which Pandemic?! | EU-Chronicle

17-07-20 07:26:00,

“Killervirus” – data from Johns Hopkins Institute

Red = total infected
Black = total deaths
Nowhere was the 1% mark in deaths reached

By Ralph T.  Niemeyer

Population from de.statista, the official German office of statistics.

The calculations were of course also based on the numbers from the JHI.
The countries are random, as they were shown by google.

The deaths in% are calculated in relation to the population. Otherwise there is no possible comparison.

The number of infected people is relative to the population, and yes, the death rate is also relative to the population.

Note: one cannot put the death numbers in relation to the number of infections or use them to calculate another ratio because
– not all people have been tested
– the number of infections contains false positives

The infection numbers are therefore not meaningful because they are incomplete.

The deceased are still significant and verifiable today. That’s why I put them in relation to the population.

Quite banal percentage calculation, without estimation or presumption and regardless of the number of infections.

If you were completely correct, you would have to subtract all those who died, which were incorrectly included in the statistics as corona deaths.

But that is not the point. Even the deaths mentioned do not reflect a “deadly pandemic” and certainly not a “killer virus”.

Meanwhile, it transpired that even hot-spot countries like Brazil this year did not have any deaths from yellow fever.

Like in Germany, where the Covid-19 “pandemic” miraculously has wiped out influenza as no deaths related to grip occured this season.

The Pace At Which COVID-19 Is Changing Life In America Is Absolutely Breathtaking

28-03-20 05:09:00,

Authored by Michael Snyder via TheMostImportantNews.com,

Fear of COVID-19 has fundamentally transformed our entire country in a matter of weeks, and as long as people are afraid of this virus life is definitely not going to return to normal.  In fact, every “shelter-in-place” order in America could be lifted tomorrow and economic activity would not rebound even close to previous levels because a large percentage of the population would still be extremely hesitant to leave their own homes.  As coronavirus survivors tell us stories of the hellish ordeals that they have endured, an increasing number of Americans are finally realizing how dangerous this crisis has become.  If you have asthma, a history of respiratory problems or other serious underlying health conditions, I strongly recommend that you do everything in your power to avoid catching this virus.  The global death toll is more than nine times larger than it was back on March 1st, and you do not want to become a statistic.

Here in the United States, we now have more confirmed cases than anywhere else in the world.  If you would have told me at the beginning of this month that the U.S. would be the first nation to 100,000 confirmed cases, I would have laughed at you.  And even though about half the country is currently under some sort of a “shelter-in-place” order, the virus just keeps on spreading.  In fact, the number of confirmed cases in the United States has doubled in just three days

Confirmed COVID-19 cases in the U.S. surpassed 100,000 Friday, doubling in just three days as the pandemic accelerates and the U.S. rolls out broader testing measures.

Data from Johns Hopkins University showed the total number of coronavirus cases as 101,707 and the total number of deaths in the U.S. as 1,544.

We had better hope that the measures that have already been implemented will start to slow down this rate of growth, because otherwise every healthcare system in America will soon be completely overwhelmed.

Of course this has already happened in New York, and now other hotspots across the country are starting to become major problems.
